This stretches the topic. But my pick for 6th man is Pistol Pete.

Lots of good options for 6th man. But Pete doesn't get the love and respect he earned.

Some excellent points about Stockton and Malone…I never put those together, I bet that does have some impact on how those two maybe were able to coexist in Utah. I guess that rules out having Stockton, Malone and Walton on the same team then, lol. A bit of Bill would have done them some good.

    Pre-NBA Sabonis should be included.

I love it! Yes, Pistol Pete….what a legend. I will certainly admit I do not know enough about him, but I remember my grandpa talking about him. He (my grandpa) was the only person in my family other than myself that played sports so it was really fun to talk with him.

JS @ KM were two of the dirtiest players in the league. I'll never forget when Grant got a knee from Malone while going to the hoop and Grant wanted to kick his ass on the spot.

Yeah, I vacillated between Sabas and Wilt for my team's center.

I slightly recall this. We're talking BG, correct? Also, I def remember those two being dirty. I had them as some of my least favorite players other than Divac at that time (but I am certainly missing some)...

    PG ... Magic
    SG ... Jordan
    SF ... LeBron
    PF ... Duncan
    C ... Kareem

Never in a million years would I take Stockton or CP3 over Magic at PG, the only other true option IMO is Curry just for his shooting. Jordan is a no brainer. SF is tough because I loathe so much about LeBron's demeanor on the court but you can't deny his abilities (especially to stay healthy), but The Legend is a close #2. Duncan at PF is another no brainer, just think the guy works in so many different lineups and can be that steady force for any team, I see him as being very underrated as time passes on and people forget about him. Center might be the toughest position of all, Wilt had the sheer numbers, Shaq was the dominant force, Hakeem played the spot like we've never seen before or since, Jokic is making a case to be named, but when you wrap all of them together, you get Kareem.

Danny Ainge....I posted this in the "What if" thread I made, but here is a personal encounter of my blunder when I said Danny Ainge....Kevin Duckworth. Here is a funny story. I met him once when I was 6-7 years old in the PDX airport (Summer 1992). We were going to Disneyland and it was my first time ever on a trip, let alone the airport. I used to sit outside the airport on Marine Drive with my dad watching the planes fly next to this pulloff spot that had a concession stand or food truck of some sort, anyways, the airport was such a big idea to me. Fast forward and I am 6 or 7 standing in the airport waiting to board and I see Duckworth in some like store section or gift shop and I approach him asking the dumbest question ever (mind you I lived in the sticks and was a small child): "Why did you guys trade Danny Ainge"?.....Yeah...I actually said that, I know WTF...He looked down at me and simply said..."Get the F@#& away from me kid".....and that was that. I walked back to my seat where my folks were and to this day have that memory. Lol....I was such an idiot.

Thank you, bigbailes, I also do agree with the Magic choice and only option after would be Steph, for me personally (Dame come on!). Hearing though that Stockton also led in Steals and Assists, though, he does make a good case. I just could never do it with my Blazers Lense on.

While I think Duncan's accomplishments may wane over the years, guys like Malone and Stockton's will most likely grow because of their overall counting stats. Both Jazz players were extremely good, but both also had a lot of injury luck and were able to play for years.

Yes, this is definitely where it seems that when just looking at #'s, as in the case of this thread I started with just the players with 200.0+ win share and this was the team I got. However, it seems that most fans and players don't consider THAT to be THE factor, or even potentially A factor. Some cases like Walton/Sabas over Kareem/Wilt, or even Shaq/Hakeem. Their WS #'s don't compare. I have been looking at players that have been inducted to the HOF and mostly ARE based off of WS, but I recently read an article saying that players were also thought to be considered for their off the court contributions, too.

Portland owned a #26 pick in the 1981 draft, and they selected Brian Jackson instead of Danny Ainge, who fell to #31.

The Boston Celtics said "thanks Portland".(didn't we hear that last year too ??)

Danny ainge is the best shooter in NBA history. A team of Danny ainges would spread any of the other teams posted here out and drop 3s on them all day.

Yeah, it did kind of put a sour taste in my mouth, and he was/is the only Blazer or really even famous person I have met. I used to call him Kevin F#ckworth because of it, and being six or seven years old that felt pretty powerful to me. I'm sure he felt in it the universe, but now in hindsight and after I was older and realized just what I said and how crappy it was for me to say especially during the Summer of '92 like that...I don't condone that he cussed at a child, but I also could have not come in with such a dumb question.

my Bball junkie friends have had something close to this as an on going discussion. Our twist is whats the best team of players you can put together with the caveat that you don't have to consider guys who's careers were before your time and you had to select from guys who established their baseline of greatness over significant time. This discounts guys like Sabonis and Walton who's greatness was cut short by injury. Since I was born in 67, I didn't see Kareem at his best let alone Wilt.

My starting 5 is Jordan, Pippen, Bird, Duncan & Hakeem. I'd run the offense through Bird and have everyone else snipe and D up

I was thinking of an All Time Villains team to put up against everyone's teams, and I realized I was just making the 1995-96 Seattle Supersonics.
