    This is really fucked up.

VIDEO: Cop Shoots Innocent Woman Holding a Pot in her Kitchen | FIRED & CHARGED

    Posted on July 22, 2024

The bodycam footage was released this afternoon by the Sangamon county Sheriff’s Office, following an investigation by the Illinois State Police that resulted in murder charges being filed against (now former) Deputy Sean P. Grayson. Here’s my initial analysis and breakdown of the footage.

Here’s the uncensored clip of the shooting:

Some cops and pro-police activists on X are claiming that the video shows Sonya Massey “throwing” the pot at the officers. In reality, the conclusion of the Illinois State Police, as well as their police expert is that it only shows Sonya raising her hands while holding the pot. It does not show the pot being thrown. Moreover, the only view available is from the non-shooter officer (who did not fire, presumably because he didn’t feel it reasonable to do so). The shooter had his bodycam off in violation of his department policy, thus we have no footage of his point-of-view.

Here’s the language from the Indictment charging the shooter, mentioned above and in the video:

I heard about this but hadn't seen the video until you posted it.

    This is scary and insane.

We really need to do a better job of vetting and training police.

The cop who shot her has 2 DUIs and according to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, has worked at six different law enforcement agencies in Illinois since 2020.

Nor surprising. The police is a fraternity that watches out for and helps its own in a way that is so forgiving compared to the way a lot of them are with the public.

The younger sister of one of my best friends recently started dating a cop. When he first started working in the police, he repeatedly beat his pregnant wife and the police had to come. Finally got arrested for that and trying to intimidate her. He lost his job ... then a year later they hired him back.

Same county ... they fired a police officer for essentially being crooked/corruption, and then the very next day the DA's office quietly hired him as its investigator. Same county ... one of the police is currently on trial for false arrest for pulling a 60-year-old woman over for a broken tail light (which turned out not to be broken) and arrested her for being on meth. Took her to the hospital for bloodwork and it turned out she was clean. What makes that even worse is that he arrested someone else the day before in the very same way for the very same thing, In a county of 80,000 people, what are the odds the same police officer would pull over two people on consecutive days on routine traffic stops and arrest both of them for suspicion of being on meth?

The thing is, there probably are about 15% of police that are this brazenly bad. More might be militaristic bullies, but they don't act on it. But the problem is about 80% of the rest of them won't do anything about the 15% that abuse their position, and they already have so many protections like qualified immunity behind which to hide.

I have friends in the field but I've run across enough corruption to think we need a major overhaul in law enforcement. Right now, it's like used car sales with the law.

First time I saw the video, it looked like the cop just randomly shot a woman fucking around in the kitchen, not a threat to anyone. On a second look, you can see her raise the pot, but by this point the cop is getting closer to her for reasons beyond me. It reminds me of those cases where a cop jumps onto a moving vehicle as an excuse to kill someone. You can see in the longer video that when he goes outside post shooting, he's not doing a great job selling it to the 20 other cops. They seem skeptical to me, which is a bad sign for his case.

It looked to me like she held up the pot to shield her face. It was a defensive move.

And by that point, the cop already made the situation more dangerous for himself by getting within range of the water.

And even at that, she'd have to have been some kind of liquid ninja/waterbender to scald him from 15 feet away over a countertop with the warm water she took off the burner a minute earlier.

I thought the first time she was putting cold water in the pot to cool it off before getting shot. It was only on the second viewing that I saw the steam rising next to her body. To clarify, it's not like I think the woman did anything wrong, I just couldn't understand what the pro cop narrative here would even be.

I don't think either of them knew what "rebuke" meant, either.

I'm going to start off by saying not all cops are bad. This thread is not about that. It's about knowing and learning your civil rights. Especially if you have kids or older citizens in your circle of family and friends. She called for help about a possible prowler. That does not give the police the right to demand ID and to enter her house and "sweep it."

The officer that killed her was condescending from the beginning. Her knowing and asserting her civil rights would have saved her life.

We are in election season right now so people are going to see this through either an anti-police or a racial lense, but to me, this was a clear example as to why calling the police when you're going through a mental health crisis is a bad idea in America. Last year or so cops shot a white guy to death who called them during a mental health episode in Colorado. I'm making an assumption on poor Sonya here based on the rebuking Jesus stuff and the prowler call. Maybe she was in her right mind and if so, this is an irrelevant point.

100%. Police should definitely be better trained in de-escalation and we need to make more legitimate efforts to get rid of bullying and corruption.

We should not be putting people in prison at the rates we do, nor should we be more likely to be killed by police than terrorists.

This is not an attack on police. This is an attack on a very flawed and corrupt system.

Dude murdered her. She called for help and she was shot for nothing. Terrible.

Got fired but was acquitted by a jury of his peers for punching a handcuffed woman in the face for spitting.

Bro on Bike Insults Cops, Makes History!
    Posted on August 22, 2024

Do you remember the video I did in June of last year showing the Phoenix Police Department arresting (Kenneth) Ronald McDonald in retaliation for calling one of them a “dumbass?” Not only did McDonald single-handedly beat the corrupt City of Phoenix cops and prosecutors, representing himself pro se and winning his criminal case, but he made it into the HUGE DOJ investigation report released a few months ago. Whatever happened to the two cops from the video?

Tired Grandpa’s Terrible Roadtrip | Cop Placed on Leave
    Posted on October 17, 2023

Imagine that your 62 year old father was driving late at night after 11 hours on the road. Would you worry that he would fall asleep? Hopefully he would just pull over somewhere and take a nap if he was tired. Right? Usually, yes. But not in Spokane County, Washington.

62 year old Kevin Hinton had just driven 11 hours into his road trip back from meeting his brand new baby granddaughter in Oregon. He was too tired to continue driving. He couldn’t keep his eyes open. So he pulled over into a parking lot at Terrace View Park, in Spokane, Washington, to take a nap. Shortly afterwards he would encounter Sgt. Clay Hilton with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Within three minutes, Hilton would forcibly remove Mr. Hinton from his vehicle in such a way as to leave him with 8 broken ribs, a punctured lung, severe concussion, shoulder injury, and a disfigured lip. Why? Because Sgt. Hilton thought he was being rude.

Here’s the raw use of force footage: https://thecivilrightslawyer.com/2023/10/17/tired-grandpas-terrible-roadtrip-cop-placed-on-leave/
