yeah, the cost of this is insane.

    upload_2024-9-12_16-51-4.png

OSU/WSU have to send the MWC 21.5M, each. That 111M will be paid out of future earnings of the 'Pac-6' or whatever they'll call it. And, by rule, the conference will need to add a minimum of 2 more schools in order for the NCAA to certify it's a conference. So, the future debt service is probably not complete

I'm skeptical that the schools can hit the 15M/year mark on a media deal; my hunch is it's closer to 12M/year. For OSU/WSU, if it's, for example a 13M/year deal, for 5-6 years, that will be reduced by the 21.5M payout to the MWC. Over 5 years, that's a 4.3M debit, leaving them with a surplus of 8.7M/year. Over 6 years, about 3.6M/year leaving them with a surplus of 9.4M/year. That's a lot to pay just to carry forward the Pac brand

OSU will likely be going back to the legislature or a bail-out because that's some pretty severe belt-tightening

    ****************************************************

and lol at all the self-righteous chatter by OSU/WSU about other conferences raiding the Pac-12, and they turn around and do the same thing to the MWC

I like where this is headed. I want no part of joining a non geographical conference as a money grab. Go Beavs.

Already planning a roadie to SDSU for a conference game. Ya baby!

But I just don't get why you don't get this? Is there no respect or appreciation for tradition? Do dollars and un unrealistic shot at a Nattie supersede everything?

I think people have an appreciation for tradition. But I think most of those have a more substantial appreciation for reality. I'm happy that the UofO made it into the Big-10; but I'm sad the Pac-12 died. Except for 5 seasons (1959-1963) when UofO/OSU went independent, the UofO, OSU, Cal, & UW have been in the same conference for 109 years. They formed the PCC in 1915. WSU joined in 1917; Stanford in 1918; USC in 1922; UCLA in 1928; ASU and Arizona in 1978 (46 years ago). Colorado and Utah were late additions in 2011. That is a lot of years of tradition. By the way, the Mountain West Conference and it's schools have traditions too. "Never mind those" said the Pac-2

this tradition argument seems pretty ideological. Kind of like the false dichotomy between amateurism and professionalism. The reality is that college sports, especially football, have been about the money since before WWII. Admission isn't free; neither are the uniforms or medical staffs; or the travel; or the coaches; or scholarships. Once a program is on those tracks, the athletic departments have prioritized budgets; revenues and expenses. Obviously, television has permanently altered the landscape. But before TV there was radio and print media

NIL and the transfer portal are just the latest episodes in the "Where the fuck are we going??" show.

here's the elephant in the room about college sports and tradition: it was a fool's paradise built on a rotten foundation. In hindsight, it amazes me that the courts didn't essentially rule that the NCAA was violating ant-trust laws 40-50 years ago instead of over just the last 5 years. Well, the genie is out of the bottle, Pandora's box is wide open, the cows have left the barn, and the water is miles downstream from under the bridge.

I still loved it. I'm not sure if I'll have the same appreciation for college football moving forward.

I wish the Ducks could have remained in the PAC (I wish they all could have). I honestly wish that USC and UCLA would have just gone to the B1G and gotten their asses drubbed for 5 years until they crawled back. And we could have maybe added San Diego State, Boise, the others, and maybe Florida State and Clemson by then.

I understood why Oregon had to leave, but I don't like any part of it.

I was almost as big of a fan of the PAC as I am a fan of the Oregon Ducks.

So let me get this straight…..it’s bad to accept invitations to leave for another conference…..but it’s cool to send out invitations for schools to leave THEIR conferences? HMM..

well, OSU applied (twice IIRC) to join the Big-12, and they have schools in Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio, and Florida. I suspect WSU did the same.

    this Saturday
    Beavs vs Purdue at 5:30
Cougs vs San Jose St at 7:00
both games are on The CW
How is that possible with the start of the games only being an hour and a half apart? Obviously the Beavs game wont be even close to done by 7:00.

Beavs is airing on Portland CW and the Cougs air on washington's version of the CW. So you could get both if you in antenna range.
