    This storm was pure insanity. Before it even made landfall, it was spawning tornadoes in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and even Virginia. That was while the hurricane's core was still in the gulf. We just got back from a journey to Monticello, FL to check on a friend's house out in the woods. They had a huge tree fall inches from their tiny little house. Lots of luck here for the people close to me.

    The day before when it was still a Category 1 storm. We have 4 dogs and 5 cats so evacuation is difficult. I think I am going to get us prepared for that eventuality though for future storms, if they have the possibility for rapid intensification, as Helene did. Going to need to pick up more portable crates/kennels/carriers as we currently do not have enough for all.

    Mrs PokerDog's sister lives in Asheville. The sister is in Italy with her husband on vacation but their son, DIL, and newborn live in Black Mountain.

    We lucked the hell out. It went just east of us last minute and we just got hit by the western storm bands. 20 miles to the west and we probably wouldn't have a home. It's back to normal for us here. Was hoping to get some more flex time off of work at least. Haha

    Hey did we ever get opinions from the guy who was banned from here during the debate but now seems to be back in all his glory, about the whole eating pets thing? Wonder how he feels about that?

    North Carolina Republican controlled state legislature passed packet of bills proposed by building lobbyists to eliminate housing standards that could help homes survive a storm. From anchoring houses on hillsides to raising homes on flood plain above water level to strengthening apartment buildings, all repealed.
    Double bonus, it is now even harder for people to vote.
