Reclassifying in high school is very common. Kids wanting to get to the league as quickly as possible. Nobody is reclassifying in college. No point to it.

So, how do we feel about Quick’s bold take for Sharpe from The Athletic’s annual bold take column for each team in the league?

“Shaedon Sharpe becomes a household name: In this third season, the 21-year-old shooting guard will win the slam dunk contest at All-Star Weekend (book it) and will lead the Blazers in scoring. Even with last week’s setback — the Blazers announced Sharpe will miss four-to-six weeks with a tear in his left shoulder — he should return in November and have plenty of season to display his shooting and leaping skills. Sharpe last season was starting to blossom in December, compiling consecutive games of 29, 25, 26, 24, and 27 points before developing an abductor strain that led to surgery in January and limited him to only 32 games. Even with high-volume shooters Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant as teammates, the 6-foot-6 Sharpe has the talent to be the No. 1 option and is ready to pop onto the scene and validate why the Blazers took him seventh in the 2022 draft. — Jason Quick”

Nope. He injures his shoulder a second time. This time requiring surgery and he is shut down for the second season in a row.

I want Quick to be right and guessing every fan wants him to be right but right now at best I see a star maybe a tad less then CJ.

I so desperately want what Quick does. I fear that Kjironman will be right.

This is how unrealistic expectations are formed. I just want this kid to get through the season healthy

I honestly just read the name Quick and went as far the other direction as my head would let me.

all that is possible, but I'm worried that labrum tear will end up being more than a 4-6 week problem

I'd also question that Ant and Grant will defer enough usage and shot attempts to Sharpe to allow him to be the leading scorer

As a general rule, when a player is ready to become the #1 option, they take over. Their teammates know and the coaches know when it is their time. I wouldn't worry about Grant and Ant being so selfish that they would prevent him from doing so. People were saying that last year as well. We just need to get the guy on the court first.

That he has had a second one in the same shoulder makes me suspect surgery may ultimately be best for him.

    I don't believe that's true

Monta Ellis wasn't going to defer to Curry or Klay. Zach Randolph wasn't going to defer to Aldridge

Simons and Grant may have been willing to defer to Dame...with good reason. Sharpe may be capable of being the #1 option but it's entirely possible, maybe even likely, that Simons and Grant won't see it and won't defer. There is such a thing as a pecking order. We all know that's true. I think Sharpe would have to be playing like Devin Booker before Simons & Grant (and Ayton) would consider deferring to him. But playing well below Booker's level would still be worthy of being the 1st option on this Blazer team

I'm skeptical Sharpe will be that good, especially after missing training camp and pre-season; and likely the first 2 or 3 weeks of the season.

He needs to demand the ball more if he wants shots.

They’re always trying to lose. Portland is the most corrupt organization in the NBA.

And he may do that if there weren't a bunch of vets who didn't want to give him the ball.

Cleveland had to trade Ricky Davis before LeBron could take over. LeBron.
