No problem trading this douchebag for the mother load. Cousins, Luukkonen, Benson, Ostlund and a number 1. Get it done. Sign and trade for Sabres.
 
As I have been saying, if he wants more than $11M tops Drury cannot do it. It is too much for a goalie, and you won't be able to put together a deep talented team around him. You can get a very good goalie for $6M +/- and use the savings elsewhere. I knew this was going to be a tough one as indications were Igor wanted $12M. Absolute tops should be what the Rangers offered if true - exactly $11M, not one penny more or he must be traded.

Last I checked, the Rangers didn't win a Cup with Hank and haven't won a Cup with Igor, I think the team cannot win a Cup with another goalie as well. Who knows, maybe spreading the money around a bit more rather than spending a ton on a stud goalie will work out better for this franchise.
 
Crazy that he would turn down that money, he shouldn't even get that much. Win a title and then come see me. They should not tie up that amount of money on him.
 
100% he can go after this season. This isn’t where a team is offering 3-4 years. They’re giving the security of an eight year deal at the highest rate a goaltender has ever seen.
 
If they aren't going to sign him, then trade him now. You can't lose him for nothing.
 
What team does Igor think is going to pay more than $11+ per year? Let him test the market, get a dose of reality then come back to the Rangers with his hat in his hands and hope the generous offer the Rangers gave him still stands.
 
Even with the cap going up I can't see him getting $13 anywhere. I'm a little surprised at him, I thought he was all about NYC and following his idol HL. Puts a little more pressure on him during the year, which may not be great for the teams fortunes too.
 
Looking at it another was this is what you get for giving Fox $12 million.
 
Good for the Rangers. As good as he is fuck him. I said it before I am not paying another goalie billions of dollars. You don’t need a goalie to be the highest paid player on the team to win the cup.

Tough to argue with anything said here. $11M/yr is an insane amount of money for a goalie. Let's hope in the end he is doing the Rangers a favor by not taking that offer.
 
i doubt you are going to get as much in one thinks by trading him this year...especially after seeing him reject the rangers offer

Rangers have no leverage....telling the league hey...we dont want him anymore...and he is looking to be the highest goaltender in the league is lowering his value....maybe Drury had some feelers out there already before making their offer....cause now..the return just got a lot less
 
Bullshit. Any team who has crap goaltending will be sucking Drury's rod to get him. Will have to be a sign and trade. Ottawa, Buffalo, Edmonton, Detroit to name just a few.

Once again, look at what the Rangers have tried. They had Hank with a big cap hit, didn't win a Cup. They have not won a Cup with Igor, and now to make matters worse he'll have a huge cap hit. We have been there done that, and it hasn't worked.

There is very little precedent for teams winning with a Cup with a huge cap hit goalie, Bob last season was maybe the first. Look at TB, after Vas signed his huge deal, they had one top season as their team was already signed and locked in, but after that one season with his huge cap hit the team broke apart and they haven't won. Not a coincidence IMO.

In general, I think having a goalie with a huge cap hit is not a winning formula for a complete team (only hope is if you hit on guys who are trying to reboot their career and prove something - Reinhart for example and you have very good young kids for cheap). I simply don't think you need a goalie with a huge AAV. Considering he is here already and a big part of the team I think you had to try and make a reasonable exception for Igor. $11M was pushing it, and not a good thing, if he won't even take that you have to move on.

My guess is the Rangers are F'd on this one, and Igor will get 8-years $11.5M to $12M per, and we will continue to not win a Cup as that is not the formula for building a complete team. I would trade him, but I don't think Drury has the balls to do it, so we'll have more Hank/Igor years with a great goalie with a huge cap hit, an incomplete team, and zero Cups.
 
Like they were saying on the NHL network last night, you kind of have to treat him as a 'player' and not a 'goalie' when factoring things in. With the cap going up, $12m is probably about the right rate for a top flight guy. They will have Laf, Miller and a few others to deal with but with the cap going to 92 i think they should probably go to 12 and try and make it work around him. It will be tough to find a guy to come in and help this core on it's last few legs to get over the hump. They just likely won't be able to sign any FA of note.
 
I don't buy it, he is a goalie, not a player/skater. As I mentioned, there is almost zero precedence for a team winning the Cup with a huge cap hit goalie, not to mention we have tried it for years and have not won. I think it will all be moot anyway, because Drury unfortunately will cave, and Igor will get $11.5 to $12M per I expect.

You can win a cup with a high priced goalie if your GM isn't a moron by giving out NMC and NTC's to players. Especially veteran players. There should be an organizational policy. No NMC or NTC's from this point on. If you don't like it, request a trade and we will shop you. You have to keep working in young players with a high priced goalie.
 
Yes, IF you have a high-priced goalie you are really going to need your low-cost skaters (young players) to step up big or catch lightning in a bottle with some low priced vets.

As much as I like Shesterkin, this organization doesn't seem capable of putting together a cup winning roster with that much money tied up in net. Time will tell.

ANYTHING can happen, but here is fact of it, there is almost zero precedent of a team winning the Cup with a huge cap hit goalie. Here is also the fact of it, we have tried that and have not won the Cup.

And last I checked; we do not have a bunch of cheap stud kids in the minors to build around with a goalie taking up a ton of cap space (Lafreniere/Miller are due for big deals soon, so that ship of cheap contracts has sailed). We have some okay maybe middle 6, 2nd pair kids who may pan out to be decent players, but that's it. Way overpaying a goalie, when it is extremely rare a team wins a Cup following that blueprint, is not smart.

And writing we shouldn't sign guys with NTC's and NMC's is unfortunately nonsense in a league when just about every single very good to top player gets a clause in their contract, it is ALL over the league. Go have fun with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny if you think you can sign top guys without a clause.

I don't think it is a smart use of cap space to have a goalie making over $11M per season, let alone close to $12M. From there we'll see how it plays out.

Also read they may be working on an extension for Lafreniere, 8-years around $8M per. That seems like a really good deal to me at a good price, I hope they can get it done.
 
The Rangers have no cap space as it is, even with an increase there will not be enough money for Igor especially with other contracts to negotiate. Seems like backup goalies for the Rangers have done pretty well over the years. I'm skeptical that any team would throw $12 mil Igor's way, same shit happened with Hank when he got paid.
 
Happy with Shesterkin's asking price. No. However, this fucking team sucks dick without him in goal on his A game. Just watch the playoffs. The main problem is our dumb fuck GM's giving out moron NMC and NTC's which Dolan should never allow for any player going forward. If you rave about the way the organization treats players then you should not need those to play here. Plus, we are about to see the next wave of young players here. Mancini. Edstrom and Rempe on the 4th line. Crossing fingers with Rempe who I still think should be in the AHL for another year. Othmann, Perreault. Lab. Pay Lafreniere. Cuylle is here. Mac-Barker I think will be here sooner than later. Same with Rooebroeck. The reality is Trouba will be gone next year and Lafreniere will take his money. Lindgren probably will be signed by a desperate team like Chicago or San Jose for 5.5 to 6 million for 6 years. Smith is here for one year. Quick will be gone after this year. So that's 16.7 million gone after this year on the cap. Then the cap goes way up. They can afford Lafreniere and Shesterkin.
 
I've been reading that Igor wants to be the Rangers highest paid player, so he is looking at more than the $11.642M that Panarin makes as the benchmark. When this is all said and done, Igor will get his $12M per +/- and the Rangers will be a less complete and worse off team for it. But hey, Igor will get what he needs, so that's good for him. Squeezing that extra million out of the Rangers is life changing for him, and way more important than building a winning team or winning a Cup.
