Wow. This is painful at this point. @crandc had nothing to do with any of it. I was making fun of the person who made the original tweet for calling Jill Stein a Russian agent.
    How is it this confusing?

I have never said you were racist. Maybe a speciesist but then again I am since I think dogs are clearly superior to cats.

Trump says Jan. 6 was a "day of love," glossing over his supporters' assault on officers

    Washington
    — Former President Donald Trump insisted that the Jan. 6 attack, when his supporters stormed the Capitol and assaulted scores of law enforcement officers, was not a day of violence, but a "day of love" when "nothing" was "done wrong."

The Republican presidential nominee was asked about the assault on the Capitol at a Univision town hall on Wednesday, where a voter who said he used to be a registered Republican but was troubled by Trump's behavior during the riot said the former president could still win his vote.

"I want to give you the opportunity to try to win back my vote. OK?" said the voter. "Your — I'm going to say — action and maybe inaction during your presidency, and the last few years, sort of, was a little disturbing to me. What happened Jan. 6 and the fact that, you know, you waited so long to take action while your supporters were attacking the Capitol. ... I'm curious how people so close to you and your administration no longer want to support you, so why would I want to support you? If you would answer these questions for me I would really appreciate it, and give you the opportunity. You know, your own vice president doesn't want to support you now."

Trump responded by blasting former Vice President Mike Pence, saying he "totally disagreed with him on what he did," an apparent reference to Pence's refusal to reject the Electoral College votes after the 2020 presidential election. Pence has repeatedly — and accurately — said he had no constitutional authority to do anything but accept the results, withstanding repeated attacks from Trump and Trump's supporters.

Trump said of his supporters who came to Washington on Jan. 6, "They didn't come because of me — they came because of the election. They thought the election was a rigged election, and that's why they came."

But just over two weeks before Jan. 6, on Dec. 19, 2020, Trump had tweeted, "Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!"

Trump went on to say some of his supporters "went down to the Capitol, I said peacefully and patriotically. Nothing done wrong, at all, nothing done wrong. And action was taken, strong action. Ashli Babbitt was killed, nobody was killed.

"There were no guns down there, we didn't have guns," Trump continued. "The others had guns, but we didn't have guns. And when I say we, these are people that walked down. This was a tiny percentage of the overall, which nobody sees and nobody shows. But that was a day of love from the standpoint of the millions, it's like hundreds of thousands, it could have been the largest group I've ever spoken before. They asked me to speak, I went, and I spoke. And I used the term peacefully and patriotically."

Trump's portrayal of Jan. 6, which he often repeats, bears little resemblance to the violent scene that played out at the Capitol that day.

More than 1,000 people have been convicted in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, and about 350 trials are still pending. Hundreds of defendants have been charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding officers or employees, including over 100 people charged with using a deadly or dangerous weapon or causing serious bodily injury to an officer, according to the Justice Department's figures from January 2024.

About 140 police officers were assaulted on Jan. 6 — roughly 80 from the U.S. Capitol Police and about 60 from D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department. Four people died at the Capitol that day, and one officer who was on duty during the riot died days later. Four police officers who were stationed at the Capitol on Jan. 6 died by suicide in the months that followed.

Trump's statement that there were no guns at all is false. Court documents, photos and video show several rioters had firearms, in addition to other weapons like knives and bats. Others used flagpoles as weapons and pepper and bear spray.

The former president didn't address the voter's question about what he was doing on Jan. 6 while the rioters began their march on the Capitol and breached the building.

The one constant on this site over the years and it can’t be argued…..there is a certain type of person on here that is constantly defending themselves that they are NOT racist. And every single one of them have been Trump supporters. Why is that?

I’ve never been accused of being racist in my life. Why is that?

I wonder who David Duke is voting for?

Valentines day is the day of love, albeit a ridiculous consumer holiday if we're being honest. January 6th is more like the Munich Putsch and it seems like Trump is leaning into that similarity, among others.

"Two Fox News Channel interviews bracketed today: one this morning with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in front of an audience of hand-picked Republican women in Georgia, the other by Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris with host Bret Baier. Together, the two were a performance of dominance.

FNC billed Trump’s so-called town hall as a chance for female voters, a demographic that is swinging heavily to Harris, to ask Trump about issues they care about. But Hadas Gold and Liam Reilly of CNN reported that FNC had packed the audience with Trump supporters. The first question came from the president of the Fulton County Republican Women, though she was not identified as such. FNC then edited the broadcast to cut out remarks in which the attendees expressed support for Trump.

It seems unlikely that Trump attracted any new voters by speaking to an audience of loyalists audibly cheering him on.

After Trump refused to debate her again, Harris voluntarily moved into his right-wing territory, agreeing to an interview with FNC host Bret Baier. In that interview, Baier reframed right-wing talking points as questions, essentially giving Trump a second shot at a debate. Baier kept talking over the vice president’s attempts to answer—even putting out a hand to interrupt her—in a stark contrast to FNC’s deference to Trump. Harris asked him to let her reply, and then answered his questions, sometimes testily, usually turning them into opportunities to contrast her own candidacy and record with Trump’s.

Control of the interview changed abruptly when Harris called out Trump for referring to the “enemy within” and talking about using the American military against those he considers enemies. Baier used that opportunity to show a clip of Trump saying he wasn’t threatening anyone, but the clip was edited to remove his threats against “sick,” “evil,” “dangerous” “Marxists and communists and fascists” including Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) and “the Pelosis”—presumably former House speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her husband, who was attacked in 2022 by a man with a hammer who wanted to force Nancy Pelosi to renounce the investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign’s ties to Russia..

    Harris had had enough propaganda.

“Bret, I'm sorry, and with all due respect, that clip was not what he has been saying about the enemy within that he has repeated when he’s speaking about the American people. That's not what you just showed…. You and I both know that he’s talked about turning the American military on the American people. He has talked about going after people who are engaged in peaceful protest. He has talked about locking people up because they disagree with him. This is a democracy. And in a democracy, the president of the United States in the United States of America should be… able to handle criticism without saying he’d lock people up for doing it. And this is what is at stake, which is why you have someone like the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff saying what Mark Milley has said about Donald Trump being a threat to the United States of America.”

Simply by going on the right-wing network, Harris was demonstrating dominance. Then, by answering as thoroughly as she did, she undercut the right-wing narrative that she is stupid and inarticulate. By calling out the FNC for deliberately misleading its viewers, she took command. Baier, rather than Harris, was the one doing the post-interview spinning.

Writer Peter Wehner, who worked for presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush, wrote: “Bret Baier has rarely looked as bad (or tendentious) as he did in his interview with Kamala Harris. On the flip side, this was one of her best interviews. She dominated Bret. All in all it was quite a bad day for MAGA world's most important media outlet.”"

On his own home turf... "In my home! Where my wife sleeps! Where my children come and play with their toys! In my home!" to quote Michael Corlone.

I wasn't sure she'd do anything with that opportunity, but it really feels like one of those relentless ground game drives where you start at your own 20 and just keep getting first downs until you're at their 10 yard line.

I don't think so. Most of us wanted a younger candidate.
