Smith offers some advice to LelieThu, 6 Jul 2006 16:52:36 -0700Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos WR Rod Smith offered some advice to WR Ashley Lelie after Lelie did not attend the team's mandatory minicamp Thursday, July 6. "The advice I'm going to give is that I'm going to kick his a-- because he hasn't called me back," Smith said. "That's the advice I'm going to give; so when I see him, I'm going to smack him. He's in town; I called him and we were supposed to have lunch, and it wasn't about football. I just wanted to see how he was doing, and for some reason, we didn't connect. I really wanted to just talk to him and see how he's doing, not from a football standpoint, but (because) I care about him as a person."</div>LOL.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Broncos | Shanahan mentions a fine for LelieThu, 6 Jul 2006 16:51:29 -0700Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan mentioned a fine for WR Ashley Lelie after he skipped the team's mandatory minicamp Thursday, July 6. "Anybody that's not here would get fined," Shanahan said. "It's a mandatory camp. It's not a major fine. It would cost him a few dollars." His absence has cost him is something more: repetitions and work that could give him a shot at being the No. 1 receiver, at least in Denver. While Shanahan wouldn't dismiss the idea that Lelie could still assume that role, "He'd still have an opportunity here if he decided to come back," the head coach noted, he questioned Lelie's protocol in pursuing that goal. Shanahan later added: "It would be different if people were beating down the walls to get him, but they're not. Why not come in here and try to do what you can do and make a name for yourself at a place that drafted you No. 1? I just think he's making a bad decision. He got some bad advice."</div>Both from: http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl
Re: Lelie is like Denver's Most Wanted... Idiot. He is ending his own NFL Career....not enough production to make up for the headache. ie: Freddie Mitchell.
Re: Lelie is like Denver's Most Wanted... He IS being an idiot. No one is handed a #1 WR job on a silver platter. You gotta prove yourself. I guess at Hawaii he was #1 but he's gotta realize that he's in the big leagues now and Hawaii isn't the best College team to begin with... damn.Time to shut your mouth and do your job Lelie.

Lelie will likely be fined $6,000 a day for each training camp day he misses. If he is not dealt and continues to stay away during the regular season, the team is expected to attempt to recover part of Lelie's signing bonus.</div>http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl
Re: Lelie is like Denver's Most Wanted... What an idiot. Two words: HE SUCKS!!!!!!!!! Does he really think he can be a #1 WR with one TD catch last year and an attitude like this? He should be happy they brought in some competition to Denver. Look at the Redskins. We have 6 very good WRs and they all like each other, they're all competeting (except for Moss, he's too good), and they're fine with being 6th string, even if they have the talent to be #1.

Re: Lelie is like Denver's Most Wanted... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Broncos | Lelie working out in California; training camp status unknownSun, 16 Jul 2006 08:02:40 -0700Ferd Lewis, of the Honolulu Advertiser, reports Denver Broncos WR Ashley Lelie is working out in Carson, Calif., according to his agent, Peter Schaffer. While the Broncos have had voluntary and mandatory workouts, Lelie has been away on a boycott, with a marching cry that seems to be: Call me your No. 1 receiver, trade me, or don't bother calling me at all. The biggest concern about Lelie has been his toughness. When the Broncos' camp opens July 28, will Lelie walk away from the curious advice he's been given and honor the end of a five-year, $7.1 million contract? Schaffer and Lelie have yet to say what he will do. Lelie led the NFL in yards per reception (18.3) last year yet his catches and TDs have declined as it often seemed like he was taken out of the playbook or QB Jake Plummer could not find him. So far, Lelie has walked away from a $100,000 bonus and could face a $11,641 fine for blowing off the mandatory three-day camp. When the 28th arrives, Lelie could take a $6,000-a-day loss by not reporting. Training camp is near and so is the answer to Lelie's status.</div>http://www.kffl.com/hotw/nfl

The Broncos are looking to get help at running back and tight end. Draft-pick compensation could be part of the deal. Lelie's agent, Peter Schaffer, said there are seven teams interested in Lelie. While some consider wide receiver to be a need area for the Bears, Bears' general manager Jerry Angelo has remained adamant the team has the right weapons at wide receiver. It certainly looks like Lelie could add a proven deep threat if the price, perhaps a mid-round draft pick, was right. But the Broncos are said to prefer a player, and the Bears would not want to pay much with Lelie set to be an unrestricted free agent after the season. While he has good size at 6-3, 200 pounds, Lelie has a reputation for not being physical. It could be that Angelo, who holds on to his draft picks dearly, will stick with what he has, barring an injury. Re: Lelie is like Denver's Most Wanted... Eagles need him the most out of anyone there, if they get him you could actually say that they would have a solid WR corps, plus I believe he is good enough to beat out Brown for #1.
