There's a difference between making shots in a gym, and with an NBA defender in your face. I've seen video of him shooting in a gym and his shot looks great.

The biggest part of the problem is the is the difficult shots he forces. If he played within his abilities more, his presence on the court would be more palatable.

    Maybe we’ll get relegated?

I honestly believe if Scoot was coached by, say Steve Kerr, he would be demonstrably better.

So get shots in a gym with an NBA defender in your face... And he's missing wide open looks.

It will be interesting to see Scoot game after game.

The ups and downs will make for great comments.

He absolutely needs to be at least average on defense.

He needs to be able to keep the defense honest by being able to shoot 33% or better from 3

Imagine if the NBA and G-League had promotion/relegation some day.

Scoot had 15 points on 7 for 9 shooting, he went 1 for 3 from three, he had 6 assists, 3 steals, 1 board and 3 turnovers and played 29 minutes.

It's mental and confidence to do it in game and in the flow of the game. Scoot IQ as a PG is still green and he is 20, picking his shots and knowing when to be aggressive and when to pull it back. Plus, he is coming off the bench, so he doesn't have full reign to play through it, as a few missed shots here and there and he could get pulled.

It's never, put up tons of shots in the gym and you're a great shooter. Once again I really question if most of you have even played basketball in a competitive setting before or even touched a basketball.

Dame is a workaholic and a gym rat, but yet in Dame's first 4 seasons, he only shot only 42.5% FG, which is not good at all. It take lots of time of IN GAME reps and doing it in the flow of the game, and just the mental confidence that comes with it over time.

After 2 games, Scoot is kicking ass.

18.5 ppg on 51.9% shooting in 28.0 mpg. He's also got 5.0 apg on 2.5 TOpg. He's also averaging 2.0 rpg, and shooting 80% from the line.
The only real chink in his armor: shoot 12.5% from 3 on 4.0 attempts/game.

But yes, the high variance can be difficult.

Is his defense worse than Damian Lillard, who is nowhere near "average defender" status?

I thought I was a generational-level Scoot hater until I read some of these other comments

His defense is rough. Worse than Lillards is a tough call. Scoots averages look fine, but the offense stops when he has the ball. That has to improve. Might not be all on him, but still. And yes, I don’t need him to be Steph Curry, but get that % up to 33% and he and our offense would look way better

I really like Kerr and think he's arguably the best coach in the game. However it's not like he's got a stellar record of rapidly developing young talent. The young guys he's had the most immediate success with went to college 4 years and arrived knowing how to play. Scoot is just 20 and is clearly progressing/figuring things out. I do like how he's trending and have to give some credit to the coaches for that. It often takes young guys a while for it to click... heck it wasn't until 5 years in that Chauncey himself started looking like the HOFer he became.

Yeah, since nobody has made those claims it's not surprising it doesn't make sense... But if you like to argue against yourself you can always make up a bunch of bullshit to argue against.

Agreed on all accounts, except for the word "fine". "Excellent" is more accurate.

Dame came into the league and one of his focus points to improve was his finishing, and that’s still a tough shot for him to make.

IDK how people can see flashes like that and still be acting like the end is nigh.

Dudes young and the future of him and Sharpe is very promising. I still maintain that as unfortunate as it is to regress like we have, it’s very fortunate that we have these talented young guys which should be able to compete in the coming years. If we make good use of our picks we are looking great down the road.

    Best, two-way performance of Scoot's career...by far.

Wish he was more involved down the stretch.
