Politics Official 2024 Presidential Election Thread

The first 4 are a huge problem. He can't do any of the first 3 unless he does the 4th and that raises prices on everything the people who need the first three buy.
The 5th one is pretty much going to kill the farmers. So that might not be a great idea to start with.
the 6th one might happen but Ukraine will not be part of NATO if he does it and Russia will be bigger.
The 7th one has been tried multiple times over the last 1000-1500 years but nobody has been successful. Maybe he has a magic wand?
The 8th one has a bunch to do with those wars and getting the middle east to start producing again. Maybe?
The 9th one doesn't happen if you do the 5th one.

Perhaps republicans have been played again?

 

Wow, if he quits taxing Social Security I get a raise! (Before the system is gutted even earlier than projected because it). If he quits taxing tips, I get another raise, because if servers deserve a raise, then so so I. So I'll just quit tipping. As my wife and I eat out fairly often (and are excellent tippers) that's some serious dinero back in our pockets. And then when he drops the price of gas, yet another raise!!! Gosh darn almighty I am gonna get so fucking tired of winning........oh wait, the only promise the fat fuck ever kept was to reduce taxes for the rich.........uh oh.........

 

I honestly never thought about it but that might be the case. I know when I tip I figure they are getting taxed at 8% so I usually tip more than that at least?
It will be interesting to see it work assuming he keeps his word? That change might never happen though.

Oh, it'll matter... Everything will get more expensive. We plebs will have a lot less disposable income.

And it won't matter to him because he doesn't have to get re-elected anyway. He'll either die in office or retire in 4 years, or he'll change things enough to actually hang on to power as a dictator.

He can be as terrible as he wants and it won't matter. There is no check on his power.

It was a long morning for me. Hours felt like years.

I feel very sad because I think the vast majority of Americans are going to come out the worse for what happened yesterday, people of all parties. Ironically, I fit the person that should do well in this new reality, and I've already reaped some benefits from it.

It doesn't feel good, though. I just don't see a way this plays out well for the people.

But, I have to qualify that by the fact that I obviously don't know enough about this topic to really offer a good opinion.

I don't feel I have anything to contribute on American politics, policy or social discourse anymore. The country has spoken and I'm obviously out of step with it.

Anyway, Johnny, Beast, the board and the country are yours. Have at it. I won't dissent on anything that doesn't directly affect me from here on out.

I think people need to step back and really evaluate Kamala Harris as a candidate, and some of the insane expectations they put on a last minute replacement. In that context, the Democrats are still very much in play for 2028. Earlier, even, as midterms are often a bloodbath for Trumpers.

 

Also as an aside, some of the takes about women as potential presidential candidates in the future, their viability, have been so overblown. Hillary Clinton and a woman who polled 1% in her own primaries replacing a man who practically died during a televisied debate is a ridiculously small sample size. Go find me a government that inherited COVID inflation that didn't get the boot from voters anyway.
