And land doesn’t eat, people do. People don’t produce food, land does.

Myth. Americans work more hours than any other population hands down. Besides, there is ample migrant labor to accommodate our food production needs right now. Leaving the borders wide open isn’t solving any food production issues anyway, it literally just exacerbates them.

Smug or not, there is an unfortunate amount of truth to it. Whole lotta folks are just now realizing who is going to pay for those tariffs AND who and how many “illegals” are going to be deported. Too many people weren’t bright enough to see what their choice is actually going bring. But no problemo, their “education” is on the way……like a train with the headlight on. And I have no idea what brought on the college degree rant. We’re just talking plain, basic common sense. You're trotting out nothing more than the standard MAGA“I know you are but what am I” reply. And explain why the Right’s iron clad disdain for the educated is any different than that put forth by the educated towards the un(der)educated?

You going to get older people to work in fields? Young people aren't going to do that. You guys are deporting all the immigrants, that includes migrants, though I guess you guys will let some of them back in to work for you.

I have never said borders should be wise open. It's something that has needed to be fixed for a long time. It was a problem during Trump's first term. Building a wall, putting kids in cages, and shooting people is not the solution. We need better management of getting people in legally so people don't feel like they have to cross in illegally.

I was responding to a tweet you clearly did not see or read. It had nothing to do with tariffs or illegals.

    Yes, exactly. Now you understand.

And stop conflating “immigrants” with “illegal immigrants”. Your side does this on purpose and it’s a slimy trick. Nobody is trying to deport legal immigrants.

And food grows all over the world. In fact, we can purchase food from other countries cheaper than we can purchase it here in the US...

We'd prefer to purchase here in the US, but if that's a problem...

Not in the fields. When we have a depression and people are starving Americans will start thinking about working in the fields.

What a great goal to have as a Republican...

This country's population isn't having enough kids on its own to maintain the population. All the culture wars and division and mistrust stirred by the right is exacerbating that.

Immigration is needed to keep us where we are. But we've got all these mensa candidates out there fanboying fear porn about a group that is AND ALWAYS HAS made the U.S. stronger.

Not conflating anything. Most of the immigrants who work in the fields are illegal.

And yeah you guys will allow some seasonal migrants to come and work and then leave the country. Not a surprise.

No we lost because we don’t speak to the dumb people well enough. Dems need to shift their outreach to a different audience. It worked for Trump, we should learn from him.

But it had to do with us who are “smug” about the intelligence levels of Trump supporters. And that is what I was responding to.

It’s funny, there’s just no way you guys can get your point across without sounding like smug, pompous assholes. It’s probably because the point you are making is a smug, pompous one.

The midwit, pseudo intelligent, wannabe elitists of the country do not command the respect they think they are entitled to and they are completely aloof to it. All they can come up with is:

“We need to get the inferior retard class tricked into liking us, but how?”

It’s painfully obvious, ignorant and out of touch.

While this is true, I think it needs to be more of a general focus on a narrower platform that will restrict fewer people (fewer than some current proposals, if for no other reason then reducing friction), yet will help the vast majority.

If you focus on a few solutions that can help large numbers of people, along with an emphasis on protecting individual rights, I think it becomes easier to create a large coalition and a massive base.

It might not be the way the point is being presented. It might be the way the point is being taken.

When someone makes a point and even goes through the trouble of explaining it and the response they get is "That's not true" with no further explanation, and then you cite data and facts and again you get the exact same response as if you didn't write anything, it does kind of seem more like the latter is more upset about being ill-prepared to discuss the topic than the former talking down to them on purpose.

In other words, if you don't bother to learn anything about the topics, you probably are going to feel like a child and embarrassed talking to people that did.

I remember all through Trump's first term hearing "F your feelings." Now I'm being told that F-ing someone's feelings when their actions are going to damage the fabric of the country is the actual bad thing. I don't even know what you guys are trying to do anymore. And, from stuff I've seen, it doesn't look like you really do, either.

Sorry if that comes off as smug and pompous, but trying to honestly explain things to people who only are interested in policy as a punchline and seldom offer intellectually honest discussion gets old after 10 years, and that will tend to wind up in the end probably sounding smug and pompous.

Oh, and if it makes me an a-hole for trying to protect at-risk brothers and sisters in this country when they are unnecessarily attacked to scare ignorant people just so already failed policies can be reinstated by already failed legislators, then, yeah, I'll gladly be that a-hole eight days a week.

I wonder if they’re going to do a thing like “we put them all in camps and that means they’re prisoners now so they can legally be slave labor” and just rent out the prisoners to the companies that lost their labor pool, shifting who gets the money from the immigrants to the government.

I also think of it like wearing a t-shirt with the name and picture of the guy I hired on it.

If I own a Wendy's, there's no way, no matter how much I like them, I'm putting a flag on my house saying that Jimmy who works the late shift is great.
