Beavers need to fire their AD now. Yes, it sucks what happened to the Pac-12 but becoming its self-appointed savior isn't doing anyone any good. Beavers play that schedule and can't even get bowl eligible?!?
I don't know how anybody can blame Smith. He saw this coming. There was no reason for him to go down with the program when he had a much better opportunity.
Nobody was mad that Smith left... It was things such as not practicing and not doing other coaching duties while he was still the coach.
Did the AD have any responsibility for the conference falling apart and all the players that left OSU? I'm honestly not sure. OSU needs to be smart and hire better people where it makes sense.
IMO the Beavers's goal should have been: Football - get to a bowl game. Mens & Womens basketball - get into the tournament. Baseball - College World Series. You do that, you will be welcomed into the Big 12 or Big 10. Big 12 teams currently get $40 million each. Mountain West currently gets $5 million each. Maybe, maybe this new Pac 12 will get $10 million each. If OSU and WSU lose the lawsuit against the MW over the poaching penalty then what? Money that OSU could have used to buyout Tinkle, to make a big splash in baseball NIL will go to pay schools to come to the Pac 12. Beavers have played in a bowl game the last 3 seasons. First year playing against the MW and we don't make a bowl game?!? Not acceptable.
[Woods] WSU coach Jake Dickert on playing Oregon State this weekend: “I’ve never gotten into ‘they’re our buddy.’ Oregon State is not our buddy. They would have left us as fast as we would have left them.”
No, the Beavers are not and never were close to being on the Big10 radar, zero chance they would've been considered regardless of those items you list or even if they did much better. The Big12 would've been extremely unlikely to consider them even with all of the above too. The #1 #2 #3 factors the conference wants are all TV market, the Beavers just don't have that pull. Also the Big12 travel would've been a significant issue, they are pretty far from any other B12 school to be added on their own. If there was enough pull or multiple teams yes the conference would consider it just as other conferences have done, but the Beavers don't have that pull. WSU might do much better than getting to a bowl game in football and we've heard zero noise about them getting a B12 invite. Its just was never realistic option to aim for with either school. Trying to rebuild the Pac12 as best they can long term was the clear best move. Kind of sucks losing so much of that cash to the MWC buyouts - but that is a one time cost so I can see where WSU/OSU just said screw it lets do whatever we can to make the Pac12 as strong as we can long term. Of course in football the Beavs would've much preferred to do better and get to a bowl game. When most of the players and the head coach left that was always going to be a challenge. Unfortunately its gone much worse than hoped or expected. The AD needs to setup a good structure for the program to succeed 3-5+ years from now. Coaches and players drive what happens the next season much more than the AD.
He is. But unfortunately it took us until the last game of the season to throw the ball his way more!! He’ll probably transfer. I don’t blame him. Our QB situation is garbage. Nobody to get him the ball. Terry is a beast as well.
