Loudest crowd in memory tonight (Nov 17th)

old timers probably think it was louder at Moda back in the day because they've all blown their ears out after decades of crowd piercing decibels and now everything sounds muted!!!

 

I think B-Roy’s 18 point 4th quarter was louder.
Also the Lillard game winner against Houston was up there but probably the Wave was louder?

Tatum is on a 5 year 315million contract. Grant's is significantly less being 5 year 160 million, it's not splitting hairs, it's half as I said in my post.

Yes I agreed with your point that Grant may not have value on his contract as I stated in my last post. But he is not paid like the elite players in the NBA, which was the small point I corrected you on.

 

I think you are right for that moment yes but the 18 points came throughout the quarter and that place exploded over and over again.
If you watch this video nobody in the Moda is sitting for every possession during that quarter.

 

Obviously, I'm talking about in my memory, not in the history of the Blazers. I specified as such in my posts. I did not go to the Wave game or the Shot game or the the others you mentioned. I've been to about 10-12 games in the last 10 years and I felt like this was loudest that I personally can remember.

Something felt different about the crowd and energy on Sunday Maybe it's the defense? Have we had a team this big with this kind of defense before? Certainly not in a long, long time. Maybe it's the winning in the face of all the naysayers and the odds. Saying, FUCK TANKING. Maybe it's coming back from the 45 point loss and saying, not happening again!!! You see, I think the crow loved to watch great basketball when they expected to watch our team give a low effort and get beaten again and again. Look at the the start of the 2nd game against the Twolves and the first 2/3rds of the Hawks game. We were getting beaten and everyone thought "here we go again, the tank is rolling," and the Blazers turned it on and made these games matter and fought with fire and heart to overcome the odds.

It whipped the crowd into a frenzy and everyone wants to believe we have a chance, no one loves the idea of waiting years for this. Make every game count. It's like watching a Rocky v Apollo fight and everyone expects the much better and well known fighter to win, but the underdog shocks the world and fights like an unstoppable beast.

After watching an endless parade of temporary players come to Portland and go, it's also nice to see the same group stick together and build this chemistry, cohesion and comraderie.

 

Not true as he is not on that contract. What you reference is the contract extension he signed which starts next season. The contract that he's on is a 4 year deal that averages 31.5M which is within 1 Million of what Grant averages... exactly what I claimed.

You are talking about the salaries they previously signed, not the extension on those players you listed that will kick in next season.

Starting the 25-26, Donovan Mitchell - Average Salary:
$50,105,628

Starting the 25-26, Jayson Tatum Average Salary:

$62,786,682

Starting the 26-27, Bam Average Salary:
$55,116,288


De'Arron Fox is the only one with Average Salary that is around Grant's for the duration of Grant's contract.
$32,600,060

Grant is at Average Salary: $32,000,000

And that's until 27-28 season

So the only one you're correct on is Fox, and Fox is not a "elite player"

 

We're talking about trade value, what matters is the FUTURE seasons of any of these players contract. Not prior years of a contract that is ending, or even the small unpaid portion of the current seasons contract. Salaries all nearly match in the trade for this seasons contract anyways, so this season contract is basically irrelevant.

The future seasons of all these players contracts have Grant earning about half of what the elite All-NBA players earn. I'm not sure why you have so much difficulty accepting a small simple fact.

Jason Tatum has been making one All NBA team after another pulling down nearly the exact same dollars as Grant. In all likelihood he’s going to do that again this year again making the same bucks. That’s what I claimed regardless of how you want to spin things desperatelytrying to save face. De’Arron Fox same thing. Grant’s production does not match his salary. It was a clear overpay the day he signed it and looks every bit as bad in retrospect.

Oh please, our back and forths are there for anyone to read and you completely change the parameters of what you're referring to several times and now are pretending you're on the high road. Again, I stated his salary is that of a "pretty elite player" which his production does not meet. This season he's about the 60th highest paid player in a league of 450 players which makes him around the 87th percentile as far as pay. He is no where close to that in production, the wrong side of 30 with 3 seasons under contract after this & somehow that warranted you taking me to task.

You changed my claim of Grant's salary being "pretty elite" to elite which you continue to hold onto like a life raft. You then went on to claim elite players make double that and defined what you deem to be elite players. I responded listing many who meet your qualifiers who have been making the same dollars as Grant. Now you want to say it's future contracts that matter when guys who signed extensions can't be traded for 6 months to a year after the extension kicks in because of the CBA restrictions. Again, elite players Fox & Bam... those guys have trade value despite being in the same salary neighborhood as Grant because their production is far greater.

My point was the same in all responses, Grant is not paid like an elite player as you originally stated. Elite players in the NBA are paid significantly more, close to double. Pretty simple comments and straightforward logic.

Comparing Grant future contract to a player like Tatum old rookie extension when Tatum has a pending massive supermax raise coming is a totally misleading comparison. That's why I added additional explanation to when you stated this ridiculous comparison.

Even using NBA salaries for 2024-25 Grant isn't in the top50, again he's not paid like an elite player. So your logic fails no matter how you analyse it, whatever time period we're looking at, or present vs future.

A side note on production... my fantasy league goes about 90 players deep and of course managers keep players just based on today's production. Like last season, Grant is and has been available for anyone to add. Managers might add him after a hot game, but he's quickly available again. Based on Basketball Monsters ranking of player production this season, he's the 94th best player in the league. 30 teams with 5 starters each means he's producing at a level well below average while getting the most minutes/opportunities on the team... he's the featured guy

Fair enough, seems that you consider the 60th best player in the NBA to be "elite"

There are 30 teams with 5 starters thus 150 NBA starters. So the 75th player is an average starter. Id consider an elite player to be MUCH better than an average NBA starter. To me elite means at or close to an all-star or all-NBA level.
