Another great example that there will always be contrarians, no matter how straight forward something is!
The point is, they could have held out for that. And they probably wouldn't have gotten a 12 team playoff done, Because they had to take conference affiliations into account. And there were some conferences who were flat out not going to be very easy to work with. So if we had held out to fix those things we'd still be stuck with the 4 team playoff. I'm just happy we have a 12 team playoff that we can work on improving.
I think in these cases where there is a dispute they should do a rock paper scissors tournament with either all of the players or a selection of players on ESPN. Whoever wins gets in.
Just because a school wins its conference in basketball doesn't mean they get seeded higher? They could have easily used the same formula but used seeding after championship games. Just dont auto give higher seedings to all conference winners. Thats where they fucked up.
But I think those were already in existing agreements. They would have had to change those agreements or negotiate more to the point that they may not have gotten a 12 team playoff. That's why they left it alone. At least, that's how I'm interpreting what I'm reading about this.
I'm glad the committee selected SMU. I didn't like the idea of the committee punishing a team for playing in a championship game while rewarding one for sitting at home. I don't think any 3 loss team, who didn't even play in a conference championship game, and lost to two teams who don't even have a winning record, should be in a 12 team playoff. Alabama used 2 mulligans, they didn't deserve a 3rd.
I think Joel Klatt said it, but they clearly created the seeding this way to try to keep conference championships. But the conference championships shouldn't have guaranteed a buy. It should have only guaranteed a slot in the playoff. They should have seeded by ranking and then RE-SEEDED after the first round.
I agree to both these points. There wasn’t enough time to fully hash it out so they went the easy route. I also wish the bye teams would also get to host a playoff game, then just copy the 4 team playoff they were already doing using 3 of the new years six bowls that they rotate over the years. Just imagine a playoff game at Autzen. Being the #1 seed and we got robbed of that.
Speaking of delusional... fans and the actual team are pretty much never on the same page as far as what they're focused on so why are you having such a continual hissy that they aren't on the same page today? Fans/media are always talking up big picture issues while players/coaches are always focused on the moment in front of them and what they can actually control. Thats exactly whats happening here so why the meltdown? Today the same as every day, what we talk about here doesn't matter one iota to whats actually going to happen. I guess I'm happy for you that you've finally had this epiphany, welcome to reality STOMP
Either this will be known as the greatest playoff run in the history of college football or we have an excuse and reason to blame the committee if we lose. Win/Win
