    As long as we're not bringing in another vet nobody else wants and we're getting something that can help us in the future I'm good.

    I'm not chipping in a pick to get rid of Ayton. He can rot on the bench first.

    Well, Cronin became a GM in Dec 2021, so 3 years.

    During these 3 years he traded the following Vets:
    Covington, Powell, CJ, Nance, Nukic, GP2, Hart, Keon, Little, Dame, Jrue, Brogdon

    I think your analysis is both flawed and based on wrong facts.

    I think just swapping vets that are bad or worse than Ayton/Ant/Grant to another team is a fine solution. If its a new vet we bring in then they can be told they are backups and they need to support the young guys. The problem is Grant/Ant/Ayton were told they were starters when they came to Portland so you can't untell them that. But a new vet we acquire would have less tenure on the team than our youth so they can be told their only in a supporting backup role, and if they want differently have their agent find a trade.

    Would be great if Billups does that, I mean he benched him after 2 minutes when BOTH of Ayton backups were injured.

    Ideally Ayton would be gone though, we'd rather not have the drama of a disgruntled max player on the roster. We have enough drama to worry about with this team getting blown out by 40 twice as often as any other franchise.

    https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/st...y-butler-brandon-ingram-golden-state-warriors

    This season, all eyes will be on Miami Heat six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler and New Orleans Pelicans one-time All-Star Brandon Ingram.

    The Heat are open to listening to offers for Butler and making a deal if the proposal is right, league sources told ESPN, and Butler's agent, Bernie Lee, has indicated in league circles that Butler is open to destinations such as two of the Texas teams (Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks) and the Golden State Warriors.

    Sources said the Warriors are looking to add a star player -- a playmaker, scorer -- alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Golden State pursued Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen and Paul George as a free agent last offseason, and is expected to remain aggressive this deadline. A telltale moment happened for the Warriors on Friday night, when Curry, Green and coach Steve Kerr spoke about this being fourth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga's time to take the mantle and Green accepted a bench role for Kuminga to start at power forward.

    Brooklyn Nets
    The Nets have received trade interest and opened exploratory conversations around forwards Cam Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith and guard Dennis Schroder, sources said.

    The Warriors are among the teams that have expressed interest in those three players, sources said. The 31-year-old Schroder is having a standout season on a $13 million salary, averaging 18.6 points and 6.5 assists.

    Rival teams believe the Warriors are open to using injured guard De'Anthony Melton's $12.8 million expiring salary along with draft incentives to make a potential deal for that salary range.

    Indiana Pacers
    After losing centers James Wiseman and Isaiah Jackson to Achilles tendon tears, the Pacers are actively pursuing a backup 5, sources said.

    Phoenix Suns
    There is optimism that MVP candidate Kevin Durant could return from an ankle sprain on Friday against the Utah Jazz or Sunday at home versus the Portland Trail Blazers, sources said. The Suns are 11-2 with Durant in the lineup this season -- and 1-9 without the two-time Finals MVP.
    As the Suns look into trades, they have a 2031 first-round pick and three second-round picks eligible to be moved.

    Portland Trail Blazers
    Multiple teams have begun expressing interest in a group of Portland's veterans -- Jerami Grant, Anfernee Simons and Robert Williams III -- as the Trail Blazers make decisions on the roster, sources said.

    Washington Wizards
    Several contending teams are expected to pursue Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma, sources said. Kuzma, a proven NBA champion on the 2020 Lakers, is in the second season of a four-year, $100 million deal. The 6-foot-9, versatile Kuzma has averaged 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds this season.

    What is a "punchable face"? I've only ever seen this on sport message board forums. I understand wanting to punch someone you dislike that's comment harmful acts, but not wanting to just punch someone because of the way their face looks. It's especially odd given that these athletes could absolutely trash those making such statements.

    I don't think too many professional athletes are overly worried about some dork on an internet forum (and I mean that in a general sense, in the nicest way possible) wanting to punch them...

    I mean, I could be wrong, but that just doesn't jive with my personal experience.

    Is there a player you wanted at #14 that is better than Deni? I don't see one. Even if you look at it in hindsight 3 years from now, it doesn't mean Portland would have taken that player. And who knows what the pick will be in 2029. It's protected so that Portland gets the most favorable. And we still have our swaps with what should be a rebuilding Bucks team.

    Most picks don't amount to much.

    Who said anything about what they think? I don't understand why such statements are made in the first place.

    If Shams is right and teams are showing interest in Jerami, Rob and Ant right now then I fucking hope against hope that Joe moves all three right now. Don't wait for the deadline, just ship their asses off to whatever team will give us the most back for them. If you make those moves right now maybe by February 6th a market will have developed for Deandre.

    Never been so excited to trade away players from our team.

    I was fine with holding onto ZBo to try and get more value back. Yeah we had Miles too but he was kind of irrelevant and not daily involved with the team.

    I'd probably be ok if we had ONE of Grant Ant Ayton still here.... It's just the trio of them that is unbearable.

    Not Ant, not for me anyway. He's the guy who really hinders everyone on this team. Chauncey was talking about it the other day, that he can't get Ant to play with pace. Dude thinks he's Dame or some shit and it kills everyone's game... including the potential of his. Ship his ass off to a new team that wants to use him in a new way.

    I'll be pretty furious if we hold onto Jerami too but that's only because we would hold onto him to sit him for the second half of another year of his quickly waning prime. Ayton is the only one I can stomach keeping for the rest of the season... and it sounds like at least from what Shams is hearing that there isn't much of a market for him. I'm just excited that Shams says there is interest from multiple teams for the other guys.

    My hopes:

    Trade Ant. Unlikely to get much return. I'm Ok with that. Coach giving him the ball to close out games? Let's just say I have a big problem with it. It's like the coach is holding back Sharpe because of Simons.

    Trade Ayton. Unlikely to get much return. I'm also Ok with that. Has been great in the locker room. Wrecks team D. Playing ahead of better centers on the team.

    =====

    Trade Jeremy ONLY if you get a big return.

    Ditto for Rob Will.

    =====

    Probably won't be able to trade Matisse. He won't get many minutes with Camara and Deni around.

    =====

    Keep or let go of Billups. Still on the fence. When we played our youngins, we were a very interesting team. Billups would rather lose than play young players ahead of vets. I wouldn't.

    I think Matisse could attract interest because of his defense and pretty decent contract

    Idea from the CJ to Miami rumor;

    Trade1
    Mia CJ and Thybulle
    NOP Ayton
    PDX Rozier, Duncan Robinson, and Jovic

    Trade2
    Grant to the Lakers for junk salary (not Rui) and a decent pick

    Trade3
    Simons to Memphis for Smart Kennard and a late pick

    Trade4
    Timelord to the Thunder for a late pick

    Try to reflip those players acquired for worse player on smaller contract - or a worse contract but with a pick

    Finally enjoy this team without any of our current horrific vets!!! The new vets that come in will clearly be told their backups and if they don't like that have their agent find a trade.

    In the summer use the salary savings for some MLE type offers or to take on salary like the Spurs did with Barnes while adding picks/swaps

    When you say late pick, what does that mean? Is that a lotto protected FRP and does it have some years of rolling lotto protection before it turns into a second? Does it mean with a team like Memphis that we would get the worse of their two picks in 2027 or 2030? It's very hard for a team to trade a "late pick" or a "decent pick" at the deadline.

    I'd think late pick would be lottery protected and yeah probably in the 20s or convert to 2nds. Decent pick might only be top8 protected and not 2nds
