<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (KMart @ Aug 3 2006, 09:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I don't know why everyone suddenly thinks the Ravens are Superbowl contenders. Yes, McNair is still a Top 10 NFL QB, but the general perception of him is that he still has the ability to take over games like he used to. Its not happening, and judging that Ray Lewis has had injury problems the last two years, their offensive line is quetionable at best, and Brian Billick is on the hot seat, don't expect these guys to win 10+ games</div>Theyre believed to be superbowl contenders because they finally have a good QB. A former CO-MVP and a Conference winner. They finally have an experienced QB who has proven he can win games. And I doubt McNair is still a top 10. I'll put him somewhere in the top 20. McNair doesn't need to be Peyton Manning to win games for the Ravens. He just needs to be himself. Throw Td's and Not Int's and get the ball into Heap and Masons hands. The 2nd best overall defense in the AFC doesnt need a lot of points to win games. A better passing game will help out the O. Mason, Heap, and Claytons production will fly with the addition of McNair. That in turn will help the running game led by Mike Anderson and Lewis. Brian was known to be an offensive mastermind but he never had the weapons to use until now. The Ravens will have a very successful season.
So, basically everyone that thinks the Ravens can contend is basing it on a QB? Where did they get the idea with the defense that they had last year. Don't come out and give me Ray Lewis is so good, because he isn't anymore.

Ray Lewis hasnt been the same since Siragusa and the other Dlinemen left. Those 2 guys helped him out in tremendous ways because they were huge and they let Ray Lewis fly to all parts of the field. You take away that from a Lb then his production is going to decrease because he's getting blocked. This Ravens unit still has very good defensive players like Rolle, Ed Reed, etc. This defense is still very good. There's a reason Kyle's nickname is Kyle Shouldve Been a Super-Boller. The Ravens have been a Quarterback away from a Superbowl title just like the same situation the eagles were with a WR. The Ravens are going to make some noise this year.

Sure, the additions of Pryce and Ngata should help, but one is a rookie who will likely need time to adjust to the NFL game and Trevor Pryce hasnt had a 10 sack seasons in 5 Full Seasons now. Combine that with the aging of Ray Lewis (31) and a few key defensive players coming off injury like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed and it sounds like trouble at first. Not to mention Brian Billick has one of the biggest playbooks the NFL has and its going to take alot of time for Steve McNair to learn and be comfterable with the entire playbook. I see some early struggles for Baltimore, a solid finish to finish around 8-8 to save Billick's job and third place to Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, because are they really any better then either of them?

This division doesnt look as strong as it was before. Steelers lost their heart and soul aka the Bus, Randle El, and some other key players. The cincy bengals have had a very distracting offseason with the stuff thats going on with henry and the other guys. Add to that Thurman is going to be out for the first 4 games. Palmer is coming off a devastating injury so we dont know if he's going to be the same. This division still doesnt have a clear-cut winner yet.
The Chiefs win the division? Haha that is a good one.Roaf is gone.Even with the "6 new starters" their D will still be horrible. ALso, who do they have for WRs? Uhh Dante Hall who is a glorified return man and.....no one.
Who cares Willie Roaf is gone... they got Kyle Turley / Jordan Black who can easily fill in Willie Roaf's spot and Jason Dunn can play lineman too. They were one of the best run stopping teams last year, and now they got Tamba Hali on the line and they got Kendrell Bell and Keyaron Fox back.Their pass D was as bad as the Broncos. Both nearly last in that category. I must say, Darrent Williams and Domonique Foxworth suprised me. But, even in their full prime, they won't be as good as Ty Law. And now they got Greg Wesley and Patrick Surtain back from injuries, drafted Bernard Pollard, and signed Lenny Walls from the Broncos. And even Eric Warfield was injured and missed a lot of games for them, but that doesn't matter.Who do they have at WR? More like, "Who do they NEED at WR"... No one. Trent Green still has 2 or 3 more years in him, look at his arm and athletism for a 35 year old. And they got Brodie Croyle, one of the best QBs in the draft, to back him up. Eddie Kennison might be the most underrated WR in the league. He had nearly 70 catches for well over the century mark. Sammie Parker is going to have a great year too. And look for Crophonso Thorpe to get more playing time with Johnnie Morton and Chris Thorn gone. Plus, Tony Gonzalez is pretty much a WR, a big one though. And Kris Wilson and Jason Dunn are good TEs.
Ooooo Lenny Walls. Wow what a pick up. How much did he do last year?KC was ranked 11th in the AFC in overall defense. Denver was 7th. Looks to me like KC has to do a little bit of improvement. And you can't replace Roaf. He was a vertern leader who anchored that line. They can' replace him just like that. And so what if Trent Green has a good arm? A QB needs good WRs to be good. Take Payton Manning and put him somewhere like SF where they don't have good recievers and I promise you his stats would drop faster then the Red Sox do in September. That's why I say Payton Manning is the most over rated QB.Kennison is not an under rated WR. He played a few years in Denver and he sucked. He can't it done, he's about as good at WR as Hall is.
I personally think it is a joke that the Redskins are #4 on that list because they added one slot reciever and one reciever who cannot catch the ball unless it is an impossible catch. And they have a QB that is only 75 years old.

I should make fun of the Skins fan on here too.

Brunell was the 4th best QB in TDs and rating until week 9 when Patten got hurt. And in the playoffs Thrash was hurt too.AND, everyone admits Skins were at least 12-4.

Chiefs improved WAY more than the Broncos, and like I said, they're healthy now.Well obviously he can get it done. He's only the most consistent QB in the NFL. Last 3 years, he threw for over 4,000 yards. Throught his career, he has a 90 passer rating. Sucked? SUCKED? Last 2 seasons, now that Morton left, he's had over 130 catches for well over 2,000 yards (13TD). And.. um.... he was never in Denver
So what if Denver lost Pryce? Yeah he's an awesome player but he was complaining a bit about the system. Plus Denver was 2nd in rush defense. All the ex-Browns who everyone said Shanahan was crazy for bringing in will pick up and dominate again.

That's like asking "So what if Carolina lost Peppers" or "So what if Cincinnati lost Justin Smith". Denver lost their best player. Yeah he wanted out, Shanahan used him in coverage too much. You still lost your best player, while getting NO ONE in return.
I'm calling it right now. Mark my words, The Cincinnati Bengals will win the AFC North division, and the Detroit Lions will win the NFC North, led by Jon Kitna's brilliance at quarterback.

Ok, yes they are. But they're not impossible are they? The Bengals winning the division is certainly possible. The Lions, also have a chance to wn their division, while it may be a long shot, if Marinelli and Martz can pull things together they could be formidable.
