Oh I thought you were using it as a comparison of what kind of players could potentially be available when the pick rolls around.
the kinds of players available with a 16th and 23rd pick. Avdija's price could be, for example, a 14th and an 8th or 9th pick; plus a couple of 2nd's too. Sure, it could be less than a top-10 pick, but we don't know at this point as I said earlier, if Avdija's ceiling is an all-star, and he actually reaches his ceiling, it would probably be a fair price. But he's essentially 24 and not very close to all-star now. His ceiling could be quite a bit lower. He's definitely better than RoCo, but Portland very likely paid a lot more than they did for RoCo
It has nothing to do with any kid and everything to do with the potential value of the asset. We will need something added to the team to compete for a championship. We will need to send out value to get that piece. I'm hoping that adding so much talent now doesn't prevent us from adding even more talent than Deni brings. If that is the case then we would need even more to round out the team to be in a competitive position, and we'll have fewer valuable assets to do that with. Whatever player is going to be picked at that spot isn't necessarily the prize. The fact that you have a pick which could potentially be as high as number two may be. Depending on what you need and how those teams are doing. That was a very valuable and flexible asset. We have now lost that flexibility and we're more than likely going to be in less favorable draft position over the next couple seasons. So at this point, I'm just hoping that we're a lot further along in this rebuild than I actually think we are.
Random. Deni must be top 5 most handsome Blazers. What other good looking Blazers are there (past or present)?
I wonder if anyone who still valued Malcolm Brogdon and random possibly useless lottery picks feels differently about us getting a young fairly paid future all nba guy whose a fan favorite already?
Said it at beginning of year people will fall in love with this guys game. Plays hard does all the little things needed to win basketball games. Once Grant is traded he’ll slide nicely into the PF position.
I would suggest he is not "fairly paid" given what he is producing (way underpaid), from a team standpoint likely has one of best contracts in the NBA
Do you guys also realize that Deni's paid 16 mil this year and it declines every year until in ends in 2027/2028 at 12 mil, and with the new massive media contract NBA salaries will be rising every year during that time
The sad thing is some will still find the negative in it by lamenting how we won't be able to extend him on that deal.
I am very happy we have him under contract for 3 years after this season, so fun to watch and seems to get the whole team going, he's creating some really good chemistry with several guys as he is such a willing passer
I think there's always a concern for a small market team like Portland about retaining your talent, ESPECIALLY if you can't outbid other teams.
yes, and they can offer up to the max....but only after he becomes UFA. They can't offer much more than 20M in any extension
So he'll have to leave money on the table to sign with another team. Not ideal, but fine. As long as we take care of business there should be no reason for him to leave.
Grants under contract until 2028.... If Deni is stuck backing him up while clearly being the superior player I can certainly see the motivation to jump ship.
