Obviously this doesn't apply to the loony right wingers, of which there are one or two on this forum, but for us normal folk, don't you think it's time you abandoned Musk's cesspool? I did it and it was surprisingly easy (and I spent hours a day on the site up to that point). I half-heartedly looked into Mastodon (Bluesky didn't exist then) but couldn't be bothered, and have avoided Threads, too, but maybe you can find a replacement (like new vegetarians eating Fake Meat). Anyway, try going without Twitter ("X") at least for January and see what happens!

If you quit it, it'll stop telling you that. Wouldn't that be a relief?

Never had Twitter or instagram or X or Facebook or any other account’s except for S2 and YouTube. That’s enough for me in the world of social media. I went 60+ years without a cellphone as well. It’s why I don’t get junk mail in my email I think. I also get almost no unwanted phone calls

Quit Twitter on election night. Don't do bluesky either. Instagram for friends. Facebook i check once every 2 years for about 2 minutes.

I’ve said on here MANY times….I simply don’t understand how people think social media is a negative thing. I just don’t.

YOU CONTROL WHAT YOU FOLLOW AND WHAT YOU SEE!

I read people all the time talking about how proud they are of themselves for leaving Facebook or Instagram….. I just don’t understand what’s negative about it.

I use Twitter for sports. Only follow reporters and writers on topics I care about.

I use Facebook so our family around the world can stay in touch. Love getting updates on my nieces and nephews and extended family members. Their kid’s sports highlights, etc.

I use Instagram for photography and some sports. Never come across negative shit on ANY platform whatsoever.

Closest thing I get to anything negative is a distant cousin who yaps about Trump. But I am very supportive of his kids sports careers, so I put up with it. Simply scroll past his crap until I see a soccer video he has shared.

The only place where I’ve read negative shit the past 10 years has been the OT section of THIS place to be honest with you.

I’ll go a step further, I’ve shared before how if it wasn’t for Twitter and Instagram….my daughter might not walk away debt free with a college degree. We used those tools to get her where she is right now and wouldn’t change a thing.

Instead of just QUITTING these formats, try using them differently?

unfortunately this is very difficult to do if you are trying to do anything in public service industry. If you are trying to advertise anything.I only do FB and here. But ive been told if I want to get my music out there i need to use, study and beat the algorithms these sites use.

I think two things affect this. Addictiveness to stars and increasing short attention spans.

many many people use it as a tabloid mag. National inquirer was replaced by social media. People are drawn to this like magnets and cant get enough. Many people used to live vicariously in their dreams through the rich and famous lives and what they read about them.
Lifestyles of the rich and famous? Replaced by social media.
Entertainment tonight? Replaced by social media.

Nothing has changed, but you are right, it is all how we use the platforms. Again, unfortunately, far more people use it to watch other people they don't know, wasting time getting emotional about things out of their control and frankly, likely will never have any impact on their lives, instead of using it for the true benefit of family interaction and such.
