I would be happy with a straightup trade.

How is “force of will” measured quantitatively?

I can almost bet he would opt out barring a brutal injury. He needs far too much media attention to a Blazer.

Obviously Butler isn't opting out but let's just say he did for the sake of your still terribly flawed idea. So we go into the luxury tax in order to have a ton of cap space this off season to do what exactly? You think we're going to be able to for the first time in forever sign a high profile free agent???

We do not need cap space, we do not need win now vets but what we need are prospects, draft capital and/or already established really good players under 25. Your idea even if it would happen in some alternative universe doesn't get us any of those things we need

With cap space, we take on other people's bad deals to gain picks and prospects that we want. Like taking on Ayton to get Camara. A lot easier to do with pure cap space than it is with expiring contracts.
Don't think anyone is under the thought that we'd be signing some premier free agent.

The Lakers really need a guard now. Scoot for Knecht+filler straight up. We need to get some value for Scoot before it's too late.

    The Blazers really need shooting.

I'd pull the trigger. Don't see why Lakers would unless they decide to break up the team and trade LBJ/Davis

Knecht for Scoot? this place is really going to shit. Everyone clamoring for a rebuild and crying about its process should be ashamed

Why would they trade for Scoot when they have Bronny?

I think they prefer Reaves over Simons.

But I just read that Miami doesn't want to take on any long term contracts.

Why would they rock the boat? Everyone is contributing. I guess Max Strus would have to be the main player we'd get in return... and why would we want that?
Sacramento is more plausible, but they probably need to work out who works best for Doug Christie. Looks like Trey Lyles is playing well, and he's usually part of any proposed trades.

    Last two weeks scoot averages:
    46% FG
    13 pts
    3.6 rebounds
    6.3 assists
    2.2 steals

playing 30 min in 2 of those games

Even without that, that would be ridiculous to do at this moment.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe Cleveland wants him for depth purposes.

I'm inclined to call bullshit if for no other reason than the author called Grant "coveted" twice. Maybe he has a different definition of coveted than I do

the problem with a Cleveland trade:

    upload_2025-1-6_10-26-6.png

about the only appealing trade would be LeVert/Strus + Niang. LeVert is playing extremely well for the Cavs. Going from LeVert-->Grant is a major downgrade for the Cavs, this season at least; very skeptical the Cavs would do that (and I'm just as skeptical about Okoro being part of it). I'm not going to bother to see if Strus + Niang works in the CBA; looks like it will. It sure doesn't meet the young prospect requirement.

that leaves the 1st round pick(s) requirement, and unless I'm reading things wrong (I'm probably missing something), the Cavs don't have a 1st to trade till 2031
