Yeah, but the point is, hire now while the pickings are good. The scramble lasts a couple of weeks, starting the last game of the regular season. The best candidates go to the best teams, so we will again get some rookie coach. Make a big offer to one of the 3 I listed, and he's ours right now.

Agreed. Get a plan in place and execute as soon as you have the best advantage. Seasons don't mean anything to us right now, except opportunities to develop our young guns and how high we get to draft.

It seems teams these days want want the name recognition of a noteable ex-player. But the best coaches weren't elite level players. The Blazers need to stop dinking around with rookie ex-player coaches and hire someone with a proven track record of at least being average.

The contrast with the love he got in Detroit must be stark for him

Conspiracy Theory: what if Chauncy is really a good coach, but has been deliberately sabotaging the team to get good picks all these years. And next year, we're going to see the REAL Brilliant Coach Chauncy...

That would be great, but can only happen minus Ant/Grant/Ayton IMO.

He might be better off in that kind of role, tbh.

Maybe he has lost Ayton and Simons and me? I don't see the rest.

I don't want a retread. Wish we had got the guy who is now coaching SA before Pops had his stroke.

I don't see us going for an outside hire to replace Billups.

That guy coaching our GL team sounded pretty good the other day when they had him on the broadcast. It's obvious they're grooming him. Sergi Oliva.

This kinda promotion has worked out recently with Nurse, Jenkins, and Daigneault.

I don't see Chauncey getting fired this season. He's definitely in a lame duck situation and I think that it's in both Chauncey's and the team's best interests to let the season play out and then let him move on to whatever his next career option may be.

It seems to me like Chauncey, Cronin and Jody Allen are all kind of in the mode of letting this season of suck-itude play out as it may. I hope Jody decides to sell the team this summer, Joe moves on along with Chauncey, and a new owner with a desire to build a contender comes in, bringing in a new GM and coach. The Blazers need a fresh dose of enthusiasm. Joe's got 3 weeks to make a trade that matters and that could save his job, but I'm not holding my breath.

Jody isn't the reason the team is bad, nor is Joe. If we're going to give Joe blame for the team being bad, then we can't act like Shaedon wasn't a good pick, or trading for Toumani wasn't good, or trading for Deni wasn't good, or that DC doesn't have potential to be a solid player.

Hmm. She isn't the reason it isn't bad, like somebody like Ballmer.

I’m not blaming Joe for anything yet. I do think he has to shit or get off the pot on moving some of the vets. He’s got three weeks to do it.

He should add some Vet-amucil to his diet.

You sound like me. I’ve been saying that all season. Hard isn’t impossible.
