We need a trade deadline thread. The path probably leads to disappointment but there is always hope for change. Hopefully a bigger change than last year when the deadline only netted Banton

    trade deadline is Feb. 6

I cannot imagine any scenario where we trade for Jimmy Butler. And if we did, i'd jump on the fire Cronin bus.

i can tell you right now, cronin will do nothing of significance.

and people on this forum will excuse it because they think he's still got no leverage while cleaning up olshey's mistakes.

Only excuse he has now is Vulcan. Other than that, this is his baby. He already shipped out or re-signed all the Olshey mistakes.

We do have an incredible lack of talent thanks to Olshey, but we forgave the lopsided deals as a way to quickly boost the rebuild. And Cronin's vets have been in the way of us improving the talent.

So there can be no more excuses, IMO.

Anyone see the Zion Piece on B-Edge ?

Hell No to Zion even if it's Ayton in the trade cause your trading one lazy , unmotivated overpaid sack of crap for another that's injury prone on top of the other issues so NO -- Period

A team like Portland needs to take chances on reclamation projects, ayton was one that didn't pan out and he is expiring in 18 months, so no problem as far as I am concerned.

Zion is a bigger risk/reward than DA, he can be a #1 on a championship team if all goes right, DA is at best a #3 on a championship roster.

The nice thing about Zion's contact is that there's an out for next year, so if all it takes is DA and some minor youngin it is well worth the risk IMHO.

I doubt NO will do that, they will likely want real pick assets that Portland will not want to give.

Zion would the ultimate stealth tank. No one would ever question us for not playing him, and the outgoing talent to acquire him would make us worse in the short-term.

Id consider this if Atlanta would:
    Ayton for
    Capela & Okongwu
Capela for salary and ability to clear his.

I’d rather take a chance on Zion than Ben Simmons.

Obviously there's an easy answer to this whole process, just look at all the teams who make the perfect trades that return the exact results they imagined. It's almost like Portland is the only team in the league to struggle in building a championship contender.

Perhaps we’re too focused on building out of the draft?

Aside from getting lucky that's our only viable option.

There's also the option of taking high risk swings on guys like Zion, who we wouldn't be able to afford if it didn't come with some risk. Or there's trading for young guys who maybe have another level of development to bank on, like Avdija.
