Someone needs to make a compilation of all the times Scoot gets himself a clear look at the rim and blows the layup because he tries to go right hand reverse instead of going left.
I've seen improvements. He's still a work in progress in running the offense as his turnovers are still too high, but there's been some improvement there as well however, while comparing this season to last does show the improvements, it's worth noting that gauging by his rookie season is gauging by a really bad set of marks. It would be hard to not improve over those marks...they were that bad there are valid reasons for hope, but there should be a little restraint on the hope for instance, if you take away that 39 point game his FG% drops from .418 to .400; his 3ptFG% drops .339 to .298; and his TS% drops from .531 to .508 those are huge jumps from a single game sample. Those are still improvements over last season, but they aren't nearly so dramatic because of that single game. Now, to be fair I probably should have found his worst shooting game and discarded it too. But, lazy
Scoot was our best player tonight. Feels like he's nearing the point of finally being a net positive, but have to see it continue for a little longer before we can say for sure.
I think you also give guys like Scoot and Shaedon room enough to screw up and still know they'll have minutes in that game and future games to grow as long as overall they're trending upward. I expect this to be a good stretch for Scoot and there still to be some bad ones too but i think the bad stretches will just get fewer and further between the good ones.
That narrative gets rather weak when he does well coming off the bench like tonight, with Ant and Grant there to stunt his growth.
Just as, or more important, it was an efficient 21 points. 6/11 overall (54.5%), 3/5 on threes (60%), and 6-6 (100%) at the free-throw line.
