I honestly don't think we have enough assets to build out a "better-than-first-round-and-out" team with those kinds of moves.

I do not want Zion, but the one good thing is that his contract has lots of "outs" from the team's standpoint, so contract risk is a lot lower.

If the Blazers got him they would have no problem sitting him and improving their draft chances.

Maybe not. Ideally, we get assets out of Ant, Grant and RW3. Then in theory, you turn around and can try to move those, along with at least 1 future 1st. Mainly, it hinges on internal development, and hopefully getting lucky in this draft.

I honestly think given where we're at we need to do both. We need to get someone with more potential than anyone else on the roster in the draft and we should be willing to take a huge swing on a guy like Zion.

If we can get a FRP from a trade or trades of Ant, Jerami and/or Timelord then we should be willing to trade that pick, the worst of our 2029 FRPs and Ayton to the Pels for Zion. We should sit Zion for the rest of the season, trying to get him with the best expert opinions, then therapy and training to try and insure that he doesn't pull/strain upper leg muscles again.

A rotation of Scoot, Shaedon, Flagg or Bailey, Zion, Clingan, Deni, Tou, a new small ball C and a backup PG would be vying for the playoffs next season with a decade of time to age into the prime's of the rotation players and become a contender.

If we still had a leader like Dame I'd be good with taking a gamble on Zion. Seems like a recipe for disaster for this apparently leaderless team, in all honesty.

I just wonder if Zion needs a change. We do have a really highly educated training and fitness team. I also think if Chauncey is going to be around at least this season, he is the kind of guy who commands the respect of some players. I guess maybe it's an if Chauncey has a good relationship with Zion type of thing.

I just think nothing is as bad of a recipe for Zion as staying in the same place. If he could be convinced to take the rest of this season and the off season to rebuild his body in a sustainable way, so he could spend the next ten years taking care of himself and win a couple of MVPs then I think the guy is definitely worth the risk.

Chauncey commands respect? There are some who question if he’s lost the team and yet he is respected?

I don’t think he would command any respect from Zion.

Solid points. You may be right. They can have Grant, Ant, and RWill

It'll be super annoying if we make few moves at the deadline.

But with the crap overpaid vets on this roster I don't see how Cronin can do anything that good.

So I guess I'm expecting very few Blazer moves.

My somewhat realistic high hope is we just flip our vets for other vets on similar crappy contracts. But those new guys won't be entitled to roles/minutes and we can start all our youth.

Not sure I've had less excitement for a trade deadline in my 3 decades of following the team.

Great mindset because you're expecting shit, so you can only have your expectations met or exceeded. I don't believe in jinxing or other superstitious stuff but I do realize Cronin is very capable of under performing even low expectations. Fingers crossed you are pleasantly surprised in the next two and a half weeks but again, it is a good mindset to have.

considering Timelord's injury history, I'd think if there was any imminent trade the Blazers would not have played him

Their only concern seems to be having one or two of the three centers available for each game. Anyone have the stats for how closely RW3's 'active' games corresponds with DC or Ayton's inactive ones?

I think the Blazers will have to get really lucky in the lottery if they want a chance of getting Flagg or Bailey in the draft. They will likely go in the top 3.
