I don't know shit beyond basic science about COVID and that it made me feel like shit. Beyond that I'll let people smarter than me lead the way.

I don't know shit beyond fire is hot and destructive and we need to be mindful when in forests and urban areas near forests. Beyond that I'll let people smarter than me lead the way.

I'm an expert in almost nothing. And newsflash to everyone out there, that's the same for you.

As I so proudly proclaim, "We're ALL bozos on this bus." And anyone who argues differently is the biggest bozo of them all........

Speak for yourself. Just because you’ve proudly abandoned critical thinking skills doesn’t mean others are held to the same low standards. If “all I know is fire is hot” is your stance, maybe you aren’t in the position to judge others.

    This right here!

“I dont know much, but dammit, if you dont agree with me and only listen to the ‘experts’, then you are evil. You are part of the problem!”

Knowing how much you don't know about a subject is very important. Arguably, it's as important as what you do know.

Having an opinion about a subject on which you don't know what you do and don't know is at best pointless, and at worst, harmful.

100% agree. What about blasting another’s opinion even after admitting you dont know much about the topic to have a strong opinion?

No one said knowing what you do or dont know is a bad thing. It’s those who admit they dont know but still tell others how it is and should be.

Not everything is merely opinion. Some things are facts.

It's ok to call someone's opinion incorrect if it is counter to established facts, even if you personally haven't verified that the earth is round, the moon is not made of green cheese, etc.

If I don't know anything about a subject and you don't know anything either, we are just talking out our asses.

If there is someone somewhere who does know, it makes sense to defer to them.

Admitting that you don't know something, but that there are experts who do, should be the default, not the exception. Because that's the reality.

Unless the goal is just to have strong opinions about things and assert "very strongly" that those opinions are correct. In which case, pirates are definitely God's chosen people and everyone absolutely must cater to their desires.

Multiple experts on both sides of the fence. Many with hats tossed in the political arena. You don't think experts don't also have agendas and leanings?

Does having a college degree on a subject make one an expert they should listen to if they align their knowledge with their far right thinking? The left?

If you don't think most “experts” aren't biased, well not sure what to tell ya.

So now there are many who don't know, but think the person they listened to does know and now said ignorant person rants on those who have other opinions.

No, not every post has factual references here. Very few do. Most of it is, you are wrong and don't know aNd I know. Not a link to anything of substance.

for that matter i have posted factual links here and had the facts dismissed and still told i am wrong. But yet you post this crap defending many here who continue to rail on others with different opinions, but dont say shit when people who think like you dismiss facts posted.

It really does leave a “wtf! are some of these people sane?” Type of feeling, when such aggression is spout out regarding fake news, what to believe, etc and to have someone straight up say “i don't care what the law says. This is that and that is this” and not have anyone on the left side of this forum speak up in rebuttal.

I mean the very person who constantly says he relies on facts and experts was presented with facts and said the above as a response.
    Again… wtf???

The silence in the room spoke volumes as to how biased many here are, and the length at which facts will be dismissed and overruled by opinions of like minds.

This straight up happened a month or two ago.

    Where were you then????

Words for the wise. My father used to say that every morning while he shaved. I think it all started with Ptolemy. He preferred pithy slogans over pronouncing his own name.

I think you think we were having a different discussion than I thought we were.
I was just expressing some thoughts on the nature of truth and reality and the forum generally.
You seem to think I was attacking you and defending someone else.
I'm sorry to report that your opinion about my intention is wrong.
I do appreciate that you have grievances, but I was not addressing them, much less dismissing them.

Never thought you were attacking me. But defending others’ posting styles? Yes, it certainly looked like a defense of their style. Claiming facts and stats are often posted, when they actually are not. Its the person who posts something like, the cdc says this or that. No link.
Trump has done that or that. No link.

More often than not, those claiming they back their opinions off of facts and stats aren't aBle to clearly and concisely provide those facts.

But you being a mod and seemingly stepping in to address posting of facts, but not addressing the dismissal of facts from the same people who claim they form opinions from them, does seem a bit biased.

    @barfo

to better illustrate my point, here is a perfect example:

Beast posted a link where it is trying to say what AOC did was the same as what Musk did. Even though we are both conservatives, i called him out on that comparison. And so did MANY others.

But about a month ago Phats said all sexual assualt is rape. I provided gov links showing it isnt. He dismissed the facts aNd said he doesn't care what they say.
Not one person called him out on it when he claimed patting someone on the ass is the same as rape.

Yet I read in here daily about the double standards of the right.

These are the types of WTF? That makes me question the sanity of some. Or maybe they are sane. Just so incredibly biased they are exactly what they rail against and just cant, or refuse, to see it.

Phats is the father of three daughters. That gives him an entirely different viewpoint than you, who has no children. I have three granddaughters and I side with Phats 100% on that. Do you have any real idea of just how serious that pat on the ass would be in most work places (at least until this past Monday)??? It would be defensible grounds for termination and many HR Departments would at least make an effort to insure that it wasn't an actual sexual assault. And correctly so. Do you know what I would personally do to a guy who patted my granddaughters on the ass without their permission???? And anyway, I don't think men have (or should have) the right to define what "rape" is. Unless they themselves have actually experienced it. Comparing Beast's ignorant (and likely racist and misogynistic) claim to Phat's comment is apples to oranges. A false equivalence. One of the first lessons I was taught is that there are two sides to every story. But then, over the past 8 years I've learned that so much of what I was taught was a bald faced lie, so I just go with what I know to be absolutely true.......there are NO good people on the other side.....so let's quit pretending otherwise.

Many of the posts you speak of are based on fact and are easy to look up. While I try to provide links, I don't always. Just because there isn't a link shared, doesn't mean their post is not based in fact.

It's quite easy to look up a given assertion to prove it right or wrong.

Pitting Beasts post against an argument about the definitions of sexual assault and rape is not a great comparison, but I do see what you are saying.

Beast's posts is apples and oranges. The two things he was trying to to compare had no comparison. AOC was not doing even in the slightest the same thing as Musk was.

Sexual assault and Rape, while defined somewhat differently by the law, are apples and another kind of apple. Rape equals unwanted or forced sexual intercourse, while sexual assault equals any unwanted sexual contact. Basically, therefore rape is a form of sexual assault.

I have sisters and neices. Do you really tbink because i dont have daughters im incapable of understanding how serious a pat on the ass in the workplace is?

But to say it is the same as forcibly sticking your penis in her is crazy to me.

period. You defending this is telling my man….
