Just a random thought exercise I was trying to go through. I've read a few places of Cronin seeming to prefer players to picks. Had me thinking if he were to try to pull off another Deni type move either at this trade deadline(highly doubtful), or more likely this offseason, who might be some targets?
Would definitely have to be someone young. I'm not suggesting some crazy all in move on an established vet.
Moreso, a guy who could maybe break out with more PT, a bigger role, etc.
Was "inspired" by random mentions of going after Zion.
Thoughts on who could be targets?

I think it's more likely they'll be looking for another Toumani Camara situation. I don't think they want to spend first round draft picks for another player like Avdija. But I don't know.

as you know, a few months before the trade a poster at RealGM said the Blazers were in pursuit of Avdija. That poster hasn't said anything for a while and there have been no rumors, at least none I've heard, about Portland targeting anybody

I guess the first question is what position would seem the best bet for an upgrade? Not C; Blazers have 4 of them and are unlikely to find a taker for Ayton.

fitting the criteria, it seems that Portland might have a tough time finding a player who'd be a substantial upgrade at forward over Deni and Toumani. But wing might be the easiest position to find an available player. Scoot at PG and has looked like he the PGOTF lately.

are the biggest questions at SG? Simons and Sharpe?

Atlanta has a lot of wings but I doubt Hunter is available. Okongwu? Supposedly, Chicago was shopping Patrick Williams earlier this season. Toronto has Agbaji. Cam Johnson is too old.

Deni was a unique pickup. He signed a bargain basement extension and broke out after extending. This will be near impossible to recreate.

I also don't like the premise of using multiple picks to trade for a guy at a position we might be able to fill in the draft. For example -- yes, we will take BPA, but if we have even the most remote chance at landing flagg/bailey, then trading for a worse wing now makes very little sense.

I would much rather acquire picks as liquid assets.

That said, some youngins I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on for the right pirce....

    4. Keegan Murray
    5. Risacher
    6. Knecht
    7. Jovic
    8. Peyton Watson

experienced young guys I might pursue:
    1. Markennen
    2. Kuminga
    3. Tyus Jones

    obviously, neither are exhaustive lists.

I thought about Patrick Williams. He's never taken that step forward, but has continued to shoot great.

    Austin Reaves?

Although because of his defense, I'd rather re-route him:

    Timelord for Reaves works

Timelord + worst Portland 2029 (probably Boston) 1st for Reaves + swap of either 2030 or 2031 1st's. This would actually give the Lakers three 1st round picks in a row and open other trading opportunities. At the same time, resurrect that Simons to Orlando trade for the most favorable of the Orl/Den 1st's

In this scenario, why in the hell would Portland give up draft capitol, at all?

It was a unique pickup. However, the only way to get young players who have shown good upside and are on a cheap contract....is to overpay. Otherwise, what is the incentive for the other team to give them to you? So if we can find one more piece at another position.....I am all in for using an "extra" pick to get it done. I wanted to do that to get Franz, but Deni might be just as good (if not better.

Kuminga would be a little different because as much as I like him he is a free agent. Markenen on the other hand would be worth it. However, I think he would fit better next to Clingan than Ayton. But I have nothing to back that up with

I love the idea of a lineup with Scoot/Shaedon/Deni/Lauri/Clingan.

Toumani playing 30 mins off the bench.

If we strike out in the lottery, I think this roster mentioned above can get to .500 as soon as next yr.

I’m a big fan of targeting Keegan. I don’t even like Kris much as a prospect but for some reason the idea of having both together I like a lot.

My interest in Keegan comes from what I saw in college and in his rookie, nothing to do with Kris.

because Reaves is a more productive player and can stay healthy while Timelord can't?

hey...if the Lakers would trade Reaves for Timelord and a swap, great. I just don't think they'd do it

The Lakers need a big man more than the Blazers need Reaves.

they got one in Kleber who's injured and out for a while (Blazers don't need Timelord either)

they probably don't want two C's sitting behind the bench in street clothes

I think the C trade market is probably gauged by Valanciunas who's healthy and available. Per36 he's averaging 21 and 15 on solid efficiency. He's the type of big healthy body the Lakers need

TimeLord + Reath with the Lakers new center needs.
Reaves (+ filler) won’t see the ball much with LBJ and Doncic.
A 3-guard rotation of Scoot, Reaves (26), Sharpe is pretty nice.

    BIGGER? Grant + TimeLord = Rui + Reaves + Vincent (+ protected 2031 1st)

Fuck the Lakers - THEY give US picks or fuck off. They have serious pressure to please LeBron and they're riding high on "winning" the Luka trade, so hit 'em while they're feeling flush.

Why do people want to acquire Rui? Serious question. The guy's the very definition of empty calories. The anti-Deni, if you will.
