More often than not, our "snow events" turn into "typical rain" events.

I call it The Snow Show. It looks pretty but doesn’t stick around.

I’m completely desensitized to snow now as an adult, especially living where I do. But I remember the buzzing excitement at the prospect of getting snow growing up in the Willamette Valley as a kid, and watching the ticker at the bottom of the news to see if our school was cancelled. It takes an Armageddon like snow hurricane to get school cancelled out here. And the bus might still show up.

I see them all the time in my neighborhood as well.

We also get bobcats by the high school (5 minutes away) pretty frequently.

Had a cougar in our backyard 15 years ago. Inwthe dark I thought it was a stray dog on the other side of the fence making the dogs bark and ran out to kick the fence so it would run off. About halfway to the fence it it started and became clear that it was on my side of the fence, then it screamed and jumped over the 8ft fence and disappeared.

Scared the hell out of me.

Coyotes have definitely gotten been seen more and more. Seemingly since covid, I guess...

I walk my dogs every day on the old Tektronix property in Wilsonville. Seems like the deer and coyotes have taken the whole place over. The coyotes are particularly bold and we have plenty of reports of "lost cats" (never to be seen again). One night my wife was walking our little frankenmutt over there, sticking to the well lit areas. A pack of coyotes began stalking her for the tasty morsel that was at the end of her leash (that little dumbshit wanted to play with them!!) No matter what she did, they were not intimidated. She finally called me to come and get her. My vehicle did not intimidate them either, as they seemed to know I could not go "off road". They are amazingly brazen and I don't understand why there isn't some effort to eradicate them. I have yet to figure out what benefit they may provide.

In our neighborhood they eat the bunnies, which means there is less reason for the rattle snakes to come around. But I do not think you guys get rattle snakes...

I do have some fun stories because of them - we live in a rare neighborhood for Southern California - since we all have relatively big lots. Our Neighbors wanted to raise goats for the milk - but the Coyotes are a problem, They added miniature horses which the Coyote will not attack, but they did not deter them from going after the goats - so they got a Llama - because the Coyotes are afraid of it. While Matilda (the Llama) did the work, she was depressed and lonely so they got her an Alpaca to be her friend. That made the Llama very happy, but the Alpaca was very mean to the goats so they got rid of the goats and replaced them with miniature goats that the Alpaca seems to be less mean to. Unfortunately, the Alpaca was now picking on the miniature horses - so after a while they decided to get rid of the Alpaca.

This story is taking over years, at this point Matilda is older and the Coyotes are less worried about her - so they now got Emus to protect the goats, you have to raise them from young - because they will attack just anything they did not grow up with - so now they have a couple of miniature goats, an old Llama, some chicken and 2 fully grown mean dinosaurs roaming their yard - you can no longer go in there just to say hi to the animals since these Emus are mean.

Years ago I was working in the Rockwood/Centennial neighborhood in a residential area. Walking down the middle of the street in like a 1970’s area subdivision was 2 coyotes at like 2pm.

I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t figure out where they could’ve came from as there was no wooded area anywhere near there.

When they built the barrier on Greeley for the bike path a couple years back the coyotes would be splattered on the road for a couple months afterward. They were so used to coming to and from the bluff down to the train tracks prior to the barrier being installed.
