I expect this will be a short thread.

But you know what they say about a broken clock.

When you break a clock twice every day, eventually you'll break a clock that deserves to be broken.
    Or something like that.

For now, I've heard Trump propose just three things that I think would be a good idea:

1). End the carried interest loophole (this enriches hedge fund managers at the expense of the rest of us). I won't get too excited here since he also proposed this in term 1 and never did it.

2). Reinstate SALT deduction. His tax cut plan in term 1 was what killed it, so again, not too likely to actually happen.

    3). Stop making pennies.

    Oh, I forgot one:

4). Abolish the debt ceiling. Not holding my breath on this one either.

I liked "his" deal with Mexico in his first term. But now he's not even going to honor that...

He wants to raise debt ceiling to pass trillion dollar tax cut for the rich that will explode the debt without having to negotiate any debt deal.

Not necessarily a Trump move but since his election 25 GOP senators have been lobbying for Taiwan to become a member of the UN and have an embassy...say the old one China policy is outdated and no longer relevant....I agree with this and will cheer for it if it passes. In the past it was Pelosi who lobbied for Taiwan but Pompeo brought it up under Trump's last term. Free Taiwan!

Yes, agreed. But the debt ceiling is an artificial thing which just creates an additional crisis point. If congress has agreed to spend the money (or to not receive the money, in this case) then potentially defaulting on the debt because congress has changed it's mind is just a dumb way to govern.

Permanently eliminating the debt ceiling would end the default crises, and it would do nothing to increase or decrease spending or revenues.

I don't mind tax on SS if the phase-in is set high enough that people who depend on SS don't have to pay it.

If tips are not taxed, then everyone in the B2C world is going to end up working for tips. Do you really want to be expected to tip at 7/11, the gas station, the dentist, home depot, etc etc?

    agree about ss.
Tips are discretionary to me. Even if the food is shitty but the service excellent, I will tip And if the food is great and service sucks no tip.

Sure, but the point is, the guy at home depot who tells you where to find that bracket you are looking for will now be expecting a tip, because that's how he'll be making his living. Do you want to have to make the decision about a tip every time you interact with anyone as a consumer?

Maybe you do, I can imagine that some personality types would really enjoy that, but I'd really hate it.

There are times I throw a buck or two into the plastic cup tab the coffee shack where there a several young girls working the butts off to keep up and provide a nice cup of Joe. That is for a team work effort.
At a diner, I will tip when a check is brought and it was a good experience.
I never feel like I have to tip a hd employee or gas station attendant.
Some things are just customary and ok, and it should be ok to use discretion too.
I would never tip a pirate because they always take/steal and never give, no strings attached....thats why they are pirates....

I feel like you are missing the point. If taxes on tips go away, there will be a great pressure to move more wage earners to tip-based income, because, well, because it's a way to avoid taxation.

No one tips at Home Depot now. But if you change the tax scheme to favor tip income over wage income, you may very well be expected to in the future.

That's correct. We don't take tips, and we don't give them. Nor do we pay taxes. It's really the perfect job.

To me, that one is 'meh'. I don't mind them being released, but I just don't really give a rats ass whether it was Ted Cruz's dad, or Donald Trump's dad that did it.

If I see a Trump proposal I agree with, I immediately ask myself why I would agree with it, and interrogate how what I thought was a good idea could instead be perverted in its implementation to hurt me and help him.

Yeah the one on the north is an interstate border not international border. Canada is the 51st state, didn't you hear?
