It was clever and the games were more competitive than last year’s. Plus the shorter format created urgency that was welcome. Ultimately, the best answer is to do it the original way but require that the players compete.

The break was ridiculous. The tribute should’ve been done after the game.

I don't know about all the criticizing? Yeah the breaks were a bit long and I think they could have done the gone fishing bit after the final game.
It was a showcase weekend. It was probably better if you were there live.
I liked that I could watch it when I got the chance with the replays throughout the weekend because I had a few other things going and watched Saturday on Sunday morning.

Maybe the original way with more money on the line for the winning team.

Well TNT produces these allstar weekends. They work with the league on changes to the format. This was their last game…… so from friends of mine on the crew this weekend, they really wanted to have a farewell type game. I believe this format with all the breaks, allowed them the time to do that.
I hated the pace and sounds like the players did too.
I’m QUITE sure with ESPN taking over next season it will go back to the East vs West.

Everyone said it was the worst all star game ever.

I mean, its the current day NBA. Everything about it sucks, so it's right on brand.

I hope so. While Mac is a fantastic dunker, he’s not an NBA player, let alone a star.

If you want the slam dunk contest to be a superstar event then you just change two things. First, the contestants have to be all stars or the defending champ that was an all star the season before and second the prize for winning the contest is around $20M. I think the equivalent of $20M for one night of work would have got LeBron to participate in his first all star weekend he was eligible to. The way to fix it is to make superstars compete during the season for one of the spots and really want to win because of a huge money prize along with the guarantee to be in the pool to win that money again the next season.

Being a star has rarely had anything to do with the the dunk contest.
Spud, Terrance Stansbury (Google him) , Kenny Walker, Harold Minor….. there have been great dunkers that haven’t been stars. Not sure if that’s what you meant.

I get that, but he’s played in two more NBA games than he has dunk contests under his belt. He’s a phenomenal dunker, but to even call him a legit NBA player isn’t even an argument. He’d kill be have Spud Webb’s career.

Clowns like Travis act as though it was those political statements that caused this.

That has zero to do with it. The majority of the people who were or are bothered by that are people who are bigots and want to desperately call them n-words and monkeys.

But is he wrong? Travis is cunt, but I think there is some truth to what he is saying here.

If you go back to the last 5 All Star game threads you will read the exact same thing. Seems like complaints are part of the game now.

The NBA in season tournament is 10x better than the all-star game or anything during all-star weekend.

Want to see how the tournament looks 5 years from now.

If it works really well maybe they just have a 2nd in season tournament, a late season tourny or something. Have winners get playoff births. Have all-star events be day before the late season tournament final with players on 28 of 30 teams ( players on final teams don't play). Everything could be in the same city.

NBA All-Star Weekend used to be the NBA's calling card; rivaled only by the NFL Draft in professional sports. With all the dilution of All-Star Weekend, it has become a joke. Sure, you have the Skills Competition, Slam Dunk event and others, but it has really just become pathetic.
