    Terms everyone should Google today:

    Unitary Executive Theory
    Democratic Backsliding
    Third Wave of Autocratization

Just to name a few, in case you aren't already familiar.

Yeah, not a great thing to want. It might not go the same way this time around.

Yeah with the gun industry completely off the rails, not to mention the general combat gear/survival gear industry, there’s no doubt who would win. What? Are we going to throw our PhDs at them?

In the interest of knowing... it's not strange to want something to change, to pop the pimple or whatever. It might feel like the clouds have gathered and we'd all feel better if it just rained.

My questions are: why do you think you want one? And do you think you'll be better off when it's over? Will that depend on who wins, or will you be better off either way?

I'm actually in favor of auditing the government and cutting costs/creating efficiencies.... but doing it in a months time is madness. And they're making stupid decisions that they have to revert, like the DOE cuts and the FDA cuts. That SHOWS me that they're not actually doing good analysis. They're just cutting shit and trying to break things. It seems to blatantly obvious why they're doing it. I argued with a friend today about the DOE managing nuclear weapons. I was literally reading to him off their website what they do and he was disagreeing with me and telling me the Airforce manages our nukes. It's mind boggling.

There already are government auditors. Professionals trained in auditing accounts who have red flagged problems and saved taxpayers money. A bunch of teenage programmers with no accounting or government experience aren't finding waste and aren't expected to. They are there to create a Musk enemies list and eliminate them.

That's great but do you really feel like the federal government has been efficient at spending?

I think the point is that they've already flagged the problems...

I am sure every.large organization has waste. I vastly disagree with many government priorities.

President Musk has gotten rid of Inspectors General whose job was to find waste. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau returned $20 billion to Americans that had been ripped off from them by business fraud. They fired those who enforce ethics standards.

Could efficiency be improved? No doubt.

    Musk is doing opposite.

How efficient was it to fire nuclear safety team because he didn't know what they did and now trying to unfire them but can't since their government email accounts were all deactivated? To fire bird flu prevention? Wildfire prevention? Public health? These people prevent disasters that can cost billions and a lot of lives.

Exactly. Which is why I said "doing it in a months time is madness. And they're making stupid decisions that they have to revert, like the DOE cuts and the FDA cuts. I think the vast majority of us agree with that.
The question for all of us is, what are we going to do about it?

As Oregonians, what can we do? We already elected Democrats to the house and senate.

    Refuse to pay taxes?

Put a measure on the ballot to secede?

Protesting in Oregon is worthless. Nobody in Washington cares if Oregonians protest. You can start putting together a well regulated militia.

Secession seems like a real possibility at this point. Instead of Canada becoming the 51st state, I wouldn't be surprised to see the entire Pacific Coast try to become the 14th, 15th, and 16th provinces.
