Oh goody !...I feel so much better about our next few years. (rolls eyes) ...and oh, ST games begin today ! ================================================================== Yankees sign manager Aaron Boone to 2-year extension through 2027 season The Yankees have made three trips to the ALCS and one World Series appearance in seven seasons under Boone Aaron Boone has signed a two-year contract extension to remain as manager of the New York Yankees, the team announced Thursday. The Yankees exercised their club option on Boone's contract in November, with the team saying that a longer deal would be discussed once they were finished with offseason business. Now Boone has a new deal that will keep him with the club through the 2027 season. During the MLB general manager meetings in November, Yankees GM Brian Cashman made it known that he wasn't looking to make a managerial change in the offseason following the team's defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. Cashman said last week, as spring training got underway, that talks were ongoing. “You always want to have the guy for as long as you can have [him], as long as it’s warranted and makes enough sense,” Cashman said via MLB.com. “I think he controls the room and does a great job. We picked up his option last year, but that’s not our intent. Our intent is to find an extension. “I’ve been working through that, and [owner] Hal Steinbrenner has been working through that, with Aaron Boone. Hopefully at some point, sooner than later, we’ll be able to officially cement something, but obviously, I haven’t gotten there yet. But just give us time.” Despite the Yankees having one of the highest annual payrolls, it hasn't equated to a World Series title under Boone. A 603-429 regular-season record, three AL East titles, three trips to the ALCS and a World Series appearance on his managerial résumé have not stopped Boone's critics from wondering if Cashman should make a change. Even after a mistake-filled series against the Dodgers, Cashman wasn't ready to throw Boone under the bus. “The manager’s job is so impossible, so you can play the game of second-guessing because you’re either going to make a move and it’ll be right, you make a move and it’ll be wrong, and then have at it, right?” Cashman said. “So I think he’s a really, really good manager. I think that we’re lucky to have him. He’s done a great job.”
