Decent upgrade to help the current team maybe do a little better if they make it in. Is he signed next year?probably so.
Signed for next year. Never paid attention to him playing so don’t know what he is. But he’s basically a 30 year-old journeyman so I would’ve preferred to keep the pick.
He’ll be in the penalty box at least once a game. 42 PIM this season already. Next closest Ranger defenseman would be Fox with 28. Should’ve kept the pick.
Absolutely would have preferred to keep the pick Soucy is a 3rd pair/depth dman, who I can see already they are going to try and round peg in a square hole him and play him with Fox. D for next season - Soucy/Fox; Miller/Borgen; ?/Schneider Awesome!!!
The Rangers had no depth at defense during last year's playoffs, whatever Soucy is he's at least an established NHL player with decent size. The Rangers draft poorly, amassing draft picks when you suck at drafting is an exercise in futility.
I actually agree with this, and if the Rangers were a legit SC threat, I'd be 100% on board. They are not close to that this season and watch them play Soucy on the 1st pair and say all good. That's called a Drury special.
I'll tell you something else, if Panarin, Zibanejad, Kreider, K. Miller and Fox all start next season on this team I will flip out. I highly doubt any get traded tomorrow, and that's okay, but absolutely 100% at least one of those guys HAS to be off this team before next season. Just like I said after the Florida series, and was 100% right, something has to change here. Drury didn't listen to me then, and the season has been a mess, will he listen now. And most importantly, does he have the creativity and balls to deal one of those guys.
The team that made the SCF had tons of depth and one of the best goalies in the league. No one knows if a team will go all the way, but that team clearly had the talent to make a run, just like other teams did as well, point is they were in the mix to be a SCF type team. This year's team is not close to that level.
The real truth is, Soucy doesn't matter, even giving up a 3rd for him is whatever. The key is what's next, either tomorrow or this summer. What this team looks like into next season is what it's all about. And if Soucy/Schneider is the 3rd pair, that is pretty solid, so I am done on this one. Let's see what the whole picture looks like into next season, that's # 1.
The big move we've all been waiting for, Uhro Vaakanainen re-signed for two years at $1.550M per. Unless they are trading K. Miller, this all but cements what I knew to be the case yesterday, Drury plans to play Soucy as the top pair LD with Fox. You don't bring Uhro back if you envision Soucy as the 3rd pair LD, and since his cap hit is $3.25M that is too much for the 3rd pair. You guys can go praise Drury, but he is a horrific GM. Let's look at his highlights: 1. He does nothing of impact at the trade DL last season, despite having the # 1 team in the NHL. And please do not say cap as the Rangers had plenty of cap space with Chytil on LTIR. 2. After they lose to Florida it was crystal clear to anyone with a brain the stale core needed to be broken up, he did nothing. 3. He got way out over his skis with Trouba publicly, and it really hurt team chemistry when he kept him into the season after the PR debacle. 4. He traded away a 2nd and a 5th for Smith, to play a role he wasn't good enough to play. He then traded him away for less. 5. He traded away a 3rd for Soucy to give him the Smith treatment, meaning playing a player above where he should play. A 3rd pair dman will be asked to be a 1st pair dman. 6. In a seller's market, he does nothing today except re-sign an average 3rd pair dman. The guy is awful and has been from day one. He has no balls and no creativity. Mark it down now, this core will be back again next season with no main changes, because he is afraid and in over his head. It must be nice to be that awful at your job, with no risk of getting fired.
Nobody, including you, saw the JT Miller trade where Drury gave up nothing for a 100 point player, hard to think of another Rangers trade in the last few decades that has been as impactful. Drury has been hamstrung by far more incompetent previous Rangers GMs handing out NTCs like candy yet Drury was still able to move Goodrow and Trouba but Mika rejected being traded. I think this team is much more physical than last year's especially without Fox in the lineup.
I loved the Miller trade and stated that louder and clearer than anyone in here. If anything, that proves I can be fair to Drury and give him credit when he deserves it, despite how terrible he is overall. Full credit to Drury for the Miller trade, no doubt about it. But that one awesome trade is buried in an avalanche of bad to terrible decisions AND most importantly inaction and being afraid. Respectfully, I think Drury has compromising photos on some of you guys the way you defend what he has done here. Always coming up with excuses or giving him a pass for his inaction and bad moves. All the stuff I listed is 100% factual, you all can spin them if you want, but the facts have a hard way of catching up to you. Is what it is now, Drury will be on the clock yet again in July, let's see if he can do the right things this time, my expectations are very low based on past results.
I judge GMs by their records, not by their ability to amass draft picks they don't know how to use. Please name the GM who should have been here instead of Drury who would have produced better results, otherwise you're a barking dog. There is no point where if you write an opinion it becomes fact.
Everything I listed are facts, with maybe the exception of stating anyone with a brain could see the stale core needed to be broken up (I say maybe because I could argue that is a fact as it was so obvious, but I digress). My opinion is Drury is in over his head and should be fired, I listed facts as to why I feel that way. As for name GM's I'd want here, give me the GM of TB, or Florida, or Vegas for example. And it doesn't just have to be GM's who have won Cups, you can do a good/very good job and not win a Cup, only one team a year wins a Cup. If you think Drury has done well as Pres/GM, all good you are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I will strongly disagree, and I am also certainly entitled to my opinion.
It takes 2 to make a trade...it takes a gm to offer something reasonable for the guys you want to get rid of....oh and btw...the guys you want to get rid of have the power to say no...so kill Drury all you want..hands were/are tied... The Miller trade, if you want to kill Chris, should have been done at the trading deadline last year. Then again...was Vancover lookong to trade him and it would have been much more than an off injuried Chytil. Gotta be fair
