I'm not sure any of this will work. It's just interesting technology. Ozempic has been transformational for millions of people. If you read the reviews of people who use it and don't have terrible side effects they are blown away at how much their lives have improved.

And if a more natural alternative can be made readily available at low cost and helps as many or more I just think that would be great.

It's also interesting that this discovery happened because it shows some exciting applications for AI.

It's not as simple as will power and exercise. Many poor people live in food deserts. People working multiple jobs, or rotating shifts, have trouble cooking and eating on schedule. Cheap food is crappy food. Often cities don't have sidewalks and poor people are less likely to have access to parks, pools, etc.
Covid hurt. The joke about Covid 19. Stuck at home with little to do but cook and bake and wondering if we were all going to die. I am still trying to take off my Covid 19. Also when people get older losing weight is harder.

This is not the same AI as the other AI that also isn’t AI.

AlphaFold 3 predicts the structure and interactions of all of life’s molecules

Update November 11, 2024: As of November 2024, we have released AlphaFold 3 model code and weights for academic use to help advance research. Learn more about AlphaFold tools.

Original post: Inside every plant, animal and human cell are billions of molecular machines. They’re made up of proteins, DNA and other molecules, but no single piece works on its own. Only by seeing how they interact together, across millions of types of combinations, can we start to truly understand life’s processes.

Get me high enough and I can outperform any pattern-matching AI John Henry style.

We’re going to figure out in the next 50 years that there actually isn’t any grand secret to life, that life isn’t just abundant but mathematically inevitable. The amino acids yearn to become more complex. The universe exists to express itself over and over at every energy level, fractally. And yet, for all our complexity, we are nothing more than a universe of proteins living their lives inside a saltwater spaceship. Our brains are the greatest achievement yet of a nearly infinite committee of mitochondria voting with chemical secretions.

Thanks for posting this. I'm going to buy it for my sister.

And nice to see an OT thread about something other than politics/Trump.

I've bought copies for the (now former) smokers in my life. As long as your sis wants to quit deep down (even if she is convinced she will never be able to) this book should help. It is cognitive behavior modification that rewired my brain. It's basically written at 6th grade level (and rightly so) and there is nothing complicated about it. It takes a whole different approach than what smokers who want to quit are used to. And the author encourages the reader to smoke as they read the book! He also encourages you to have one last one when you finish the book. I couldn't do it. I stomped it out after two puffs and never looked back. It has been eleven years last Saturday that I quit and I have never, ever, never had another urge to pick up a cigarette. Tell your sister she only has to keep an open mind when she starts reading......It's crazy shit that works.

I quit my 15 year smoking habit with my own plan, which I am sure no one would endorse but I haven't smoked since 1989. No shrinks, no drugs, no motivational lectures. Guess I just finally decided it was time.

Surprise, I would think men who cook for themselves are more likely to be obese. Guys I see in checkout line always seem to have prepared food, snacks, beer.
