If that's the case then whoever is pulling his strings definitely does know what they are doing. I hope it's not Putin. But I think it probably is.

Putin maybe.... definitely the people he is surrounded by. I think he believes he is doing good things because the people around him are telling him what a good boy he is.

Can somebody explain to @THE HCP why he is shutting down this department. What is wrong with it or what does he think is wrong with it?

His administration gives a few reasons. Bloated and inefficient bureaucracy, continuous low tests scores, the conspiracy that schools are indoctrinating children, and the thought that education should go back to the states.

The real reasons are to end public schools by ending federal funding, privatize them, and install religious teachings in them in red states. It also serves as a vehicle to allow schools in red states to discriminate against people of color, people from the LGBTQ community, disabled students or others as they see fit without the interference of or punishment by the federal government.

The Department of Education mainly does two things, it gives large scores of funding to impoverished schools (schools get alot of their money from the state, but some is federal)and protects students from discrimination.

Without these two things the above will happen. Public schools, especially in poor states won't be able to be fully funded. Many will shut down. Teachers will lose jobs. Class sizes will get way larger. The rich will be educated while education for the working class will deteriorate. Already monumental divides between the rich and poor will increase exponentially.

Education hasn't been great in the US. There are low test scores and high drop out rates. Kids leaving school to go find work and support their families. Kids leaving because they are bored.

The problem is most schools still teach the same way we did decades ago. We aren't keeping up with the times. Today's kids learn differently. Technology is a big part of their lives. Reading out of textbooks is boring for them. Standardized testing doesn't work because different students learn differently. Some just aren't good at tests, but excel in the application of given subjects. It's a matter of changing the way we teach to fit them.

Dismantling the Department of Education will fix nothing. It will only make matters far worse. It will leave many students behind and/or discriminated against. Education in red states especially will become more rigid, pushing away masses of students.

Eliminating public schools and replacing with private Christian schools is spelled out in Project 2025. No pretense of equal education, no accommodations for students with disabilities. Teach highly sanitized history. Censor literature. No teaching of racial issues, slavery, Nazi Holocaust, sex, anything LGBTQ, no trans students, no social issues like suicide or gun violence discussed. Severely curtail science education. Teach children to be obedient. Promote extreme gender roles.
Taking over education is a primary goal of fascist regimes.

Secretary brain worm not only thinks people are better off getting measles and also getting Covid because vaccine is deadlier than disease (it obviously isn't). He has banned all research on mRNA vaccines because, being completely ignorant of biology, he thinks mRNA is dangerous. That includes a potential bird flu vaccine.

But he says much better for chickens to just get bird flu. Cull the herd. Survivors will be the ones with immunity.

Not only billions of dollars in losses to American farmers, millions of opportunities for virus to mutate int even more virulent form.

Pam Bondi wants to make vandalizing a Tesla terrorism. Fox is suggesting death penalty.

If vandalizing is terrorism, a person who vandalizes Tesla and causes death of person inside, damage to car is the more serious crime.

    Ha

The right runs to their judges too. That's how Trump got out of trouble for having all the top secret files at Mar a Lago. He got his case put before a judge who was a supporter, who he put on the bench, and who owed him. It's how he got presidential immunity by installing cronies on the SC to do his bidding.

But, he shouldn't expect Roberts and the other Judges to rule for him here. They would be effectively neutering themselves of any power. They aren't about to give up their power. Roberts is already realizing he screwed up with presidential immunity. Now it's coming back to bite him.

Both sides using the courts to settle matters is what makes America, America.

Library and museum that straddles US/Canada birder had been symbol of friendship for more than a hundred years. Canadian access point shut down by US government because Trump is offended.
