FTFY Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic happy with his horse-racing success https://www.denverpost.com/2023/10/06/nikola-jokic-horses-stable-nuggets-training-camp-2023/
Clingan makes Nurkic look like Shaq when it comes to finishing down low. He needs to work on that for sure.
Prior to the draft I called DC a rich man's Pryzbilla. Joel came into the league at 21, but it wasn't until his 4th season in Milwaukee that he averaged more then the 19 MPG that DC is averaging... JP averaged 19.8 MPG for his 13 year career. The best PER rating he ever put up was 15.5 in 2004-5, which was his first in Portland when he was 25 y/old. So far in Donovan's rookie year he's posting a 16.8 PER. I'm plenty critical of the team when things aren't going well but I see good reasons to be bullish on Donovan and his future. STOMP
Yeah, he has a lot of work to do this summer on his game, and probably the next 10 summers. But I agree, he will keep getting better each year as long as he stays healthy. There is no reason why he can't develop a go-to move in the paint that will be tough to block. Not with his length. He will also keep getting better with mid-range and 3pt shots His BBIQ is high, so that is not a worry. The frustrating part is watching him get stripped by smaller players when he gets a rebound. Those 10-inch hands need to be more of a vise grip. There are exercises for that. He needs to focus on grip, finger strength, and overall hand stability.
I loved me some Pryzbilla! He was our enforcer for a few years, he didn't take any shit from anyone and was always ready to back up his teammates when things got heated.
I wondered how Clingan compares to other great rebounders and shot blockers in Blazer history: Blocks (Minutes between Blocks): Hassan Whiteside - 10.2 Theo Ratliff - 10.5 Donavan Clingan - 11.9 Bill Walton - 13.2 Wayne Cooper - 14.2 Greg Oden - 15.5 Rebounds (Minutes between Rebounds): Hassan Whiteside - 2.22 Bill Walton - 2.49 Donavan Clingan - 2.54 Marcus Camby - 2.59 Jusuf Nurkic - 2.76 Ed Davis - 2.78 Deandre Ayton & Chris Dudley - 2,95 Greg Oden - 3.02 Dale Schluter - 3.06 Kermit Washington - 3.16 Arvydas Sabonis - 3.31 As we all knew, Whiteside could really put up the numbers but he just didn't seem to help the team do better. Clingan is no Walton but I love the fact that as far as rebounding and blocks go, he is right there with him. I'm glad we got him.
