They had Reggie Bush wear Adidas cleats in his preseason game. Bush got fined 10,000 dollars, which Adidas is paying for him. For 10 grand Adidas got a news story on Sportscenter, and NFL Live. His shoes will be mentioned on the Dan Patrick Show, Jim Rome, PTI, Around the Horn, Colin Cowerd, ESPN News, Mike and Mike, and in print (online and paper news). All that ad time for 10 grand? Nice move Adidas.

Why would he get fined for wearing shoes?

(AP) -- New Orleans rookie running back Reggie Bush drew more than just rave reviews for his fancy footwork Saturday in the Saints' preseason victory over the Tennessee Titans. He also drew a fine. The NFL objected to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft wearing his new Adidas cleats. The league only allows players to wear Nike or Reebok shoes during games because of a marketing partnership. Both Bush and the top pick in the draft, defensive end Mario Williams of North Carolina State, have signed endorsement deals with Adidas. The shoes in question are black with gold highlights and logo. The fine was thought to be $10,000, but Bush, the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner, originally said he was unsure of the total. He confirmed the fine after Monday's afternoon practice."Adidas took care of it," Bush said of the fine.Bush rushed for 59 yards on six carries and caught two passes for 10 yards in his pro debut. The former Southern Cal back played about a quarter.</div>

It's the NFL dress code. If they didn't have it, people would be wearing all sorts of stupid stuff like Portis & his socks, crazy colored shoes/laces, and it would look trashy. They have to draw the line somewhere. It's a team sport & the NFL dress code tries to reflect that.

The NFL shouldn't fine them, the team should.

After Pat Tillmen died, Jake Plummer continued to wear the sticker on his helmet they had for him. He refused to take it off despite the fines.Plummer basically said f-you to the NFL. He's the man.

its a good rule, because it limits peoples ability to make a mockery of team colors. But they should make exceptions (the Tillman case, and when the player has a licensing agreement with a company AKA bush with ADIDAS)

This will probably be done by Bush for the whole season if it's only 10 grand.

They won't just keep slapping him with 10 grand at a time. Gradually it will get higher and higher until they take further action leading to suspension without pay, etc.

The fine will increase each time & if he continues, it could end up in a suspension.
