Billups extended

Worst news possible.

Some of you are happy, I’m sure, but this is a trash move from a trash franchise

ROFL I LOVE haters being disappointed. Y’all ate your crow with scoot, ate your crow with Cronin, and will have your next course soon.

the funny thing is y’all still so mad about losing Dame, you’ll hold our franchise in a crippled state like forever rather than just let it go

It'll be interesting how the season goes on next year IF they don't get the #1 pick (I mean, chances are really good they won't, so we'll find out) and they're not tanking.

I'm faith adjacent.

Not the move I would have made but here we are rip city! Here is to hoping his coaching decisions in game with regard to adjustments and lineups improve, the team is playing a whole hell of a lot better as of late overall but his deficiencies are still quite visible.

I like Chauncey. I think his philosophies are really sound (supposedly a lot of player movement, penetrate and kick on offense and high pressure switching defense) I wish I saw the things he talks about off the court take place on the court more often.

I think the guy seems like a great motivator. I've felt that his player development has been very solid.

His in game management hasn't been impressive so hopefully he can work on that.

All of that said, why not just pick up that option for next season??? Why not see what happens when you ask that he get the team winning more games than they lose, which should be the expectation for next season? I get that lame duck seasons for coaches can be problematic but why not see what you get when you tell Chauncey to win from game one to the last game we qualify to play.

I'm glad Chauncey and Joe are on the same page and I really hope what they're looking to do will make some sense.

Billups is a horrible X’s and O’s Coach, extremely uncreative offense.

In the analogy department, this is like if the Lakers extended Darvin Ham instead of hiring JJ redick. We just missed out on finding the next Redick or Mark Daugnault to stay with a guy who’s best quality seems to be connecting with the players and kind of motivating them but not so much in the actual strategic parts of being a coach.

I would guess the reason they didn't just pick up the option is because they'd have to go through an entire year of questions about whether or not they will re-hire him, etc.

They're probably banking on how in the 2nd half the season they were winning at a 48 game pace (iirc). And that was with missing players (scoot for a while, Ayton for a while, etc), and players finally having things click.

There is no excuse for next years team not being in the play-in, let alone 8th or 7th.

JJ is good because he has Luka and LeBron, be real.

Before the trade they were on pace to win 49 games (not significantly better than the Blazers were in the 2nd half).

The main hope this team has is internal development from it's youngins. While fans have seen significant improvement from them this year, there is of course lots of important stuff thats happening off the court and away from the cameras. The amount that young guys are focused and buying into the coaching and their training off the court will largely determine how high this young core's ceiling is regardless of who is coaching them years from now when they're into their collective primes. I would hope that the main reason CCB has been retained is that management feels they've got a good thing going with team focus, chemistry & development, so why disrupt that with a shakeup now?

Given some luck with health, I'm expecting they'll be taking another step forward next year. Expect playoff talk going into next season.

no, the preparation, attention to detail, in game strategy, and offensive structure is miles better than Ham and the previous staff.

Wonder how many years. If it’s two or three it gives Chauncey more development time while they can work on getting a new coach when they’re contending.

I'm not happy about this. I've been a huge supporter of Scoot's. I don't think this is good for Scoot's development.

Or Sharpe's, for that matter...

The team totally had an out, so it's not like they couldn't have just waited until after the season and let him go quietly. But I'm sure they asked the players if they felt he was helping them develop and have an inside leg on how the team is progressing.
Plus, it's not like they were going to get Mike Malone to coach here, dude wanted to mostly play vets and this team has 2 and people bitched when they got minutes.

Not sure Jenkins would come here either.

There might be better candidates, but truthfully, anyone here who thinks they have some kind of "insight" on who is available or what they can do or not do, is full of shit.

I just don't know this was the best way to go? I think there is a place for him with this franchise but I'm not sure head coach is the best place.
There has been talk of a big shakeup with the team this off season. So far it seems like they are going to let the cake bake.

They had a 5 win improvement, while adding one of the top 5 players in the league.

Your first statement is true considering no one who supports him ever brings up stuff he does well in the course of an actual game. It's all "Culture" and "He's respected" and "development" and "Guys try for him!"

Yep this is probably what we'll have moving forward. Now we just need to rely on the front office being the best in the league and we might make a deep run or two before we have to start over in a decade or so.

Who wanted this news?

Think the majority of us were desperate for change

This place is, for the most part, an echo chamber. I think most fans do not think the same way about the team as most of the people here do, good or bad.

My problem is that if they improve another 10 games which is a reasonable expectation. They win 45 games. that puts them in the 9th seed as the standings sit this year. To make any real impact they need to win 15 more games next year and that still doesn't get them home court. It's still most likely a first round out. Who honestly thinks this team will see a 15 game improvement?

Doesn't half the stadium boo Billups in the intros?

Nothing this organization loves more than the status quo and celebrating mediocrity with extensions.
Over 2/3rds of the league is mediocre at best, very year. Of the 30 teams, not even 10 are considered contenders each year. Half of the league as of today are under 500.

And this organization doesn't care to do better than those 20

It certainly could be looked at that way but then this team as it sits probably could have made the playin and maybe even made the playoffs as it sits?
Honestly it's just so hard to gauge because I doubt they ever really tried to push for the playoffs.
