I think Billups wants to win games. He had zero guarantee to be back next year, so what was his motivation to play the young guys? I think Billups is a poor evaluator of talent
Do you know that Do you know there hasn't already been a long term plan in place? Play the bets and try to win and if it doesn't work, go with the youth. If we see improvement, we sill extent you. There are millions and millions of dollars to work out in nba negotiations. i don't think they just make it up as they go. I believe they lay out several long term plans based on contingencies and try to see the horizon as far as possible.
Yep, Once Bert goes, things will improve. And in a way, we are kinda lucky to have what they do have BECAUSE of his dumbass being here thinking he knows wtf he's doing. There is no way that a big name coach or GM would ever put up with that, so the chances of them coming here are nill.
I do not know. Was told as much though, and media saying mid season winning saved both Cronin and Billups jobs
Definitely not for Sharpe's development, if there are players like Grant that Billups has already run into the ground in one of Grant's worst seasons.
I asked because I wanted to see the source and what was said. Is that so fucking hard to understand? and as I said, the idea that Denver had interviewed Chauncey....in the 5 days since Malone was fired....when Billups had 3 games to coach, one of which was a road trip....when Denver didn't have a GM and there was turmoil in the front office....is simply not credible to me. If it is to you, fine
The article says would emerge as a candidate. For whatever reason you're stretching that to think they implied that denver actually interviewed him already? Everything's bullshit if you just throw in info you want.
I responded to a post that said: "For all the hate Billups gets, it looks like Denver and Phoenix came knocking" and a tweet that said he was "eyed" for the job sure, that's all open to interpretation. And I'm not a subscriber so I can't read what the tweet was based upon. But I can count days and see schedules and read that the Denver GM was essentially given his walking papers at the same time as Malone was fired. So I remain skeptical that any team came knocking or that people in Denver were 'eyeing' Billups any more than they were other potential candidates. They may not even be considering other candidate until they see what Adelman can do
Hold up….so you ACTUALLY believe that JJ Reddick would have coached this team to MORE wins this season? Please explain.
The thing I get hung up on with the rotation/pt is when I think about the fact that both Chauncey and Joe have to be in those meetings with Bert, is Chauncey being micromanaged as well. Could he be told both that they wanted to see wins this season and that he needs to play the vets to keep their trade value up at the same time or even that Bert thought the best way to get those wins was to play the vets? I just don't know how meddlesome Kolde is but that shit Joe was saying sounded like a very hard situation to manage and it's probably that way for Joe, Chauncey and Hankins. Still kind of shocked that it's weekly with a dude that was basically just Paul Allen's college roommate. SMH.
by your pizza guy? In my scenario, winning likely did save their jobs. If they couldn't get the vets to improve early and couldn't get the young guys to improve after either trading the vets or sitting them, then they weren't getting extended. just because his job was on the line to win doesn't mean he didn't also have to follow orders.
I liked hearing the length of the extension - only two more years. I don't think you want to deal with a coach on a lame duck contract, so it's basically one year more than the minimum needed. I think Billups has been very good developing our players (#1 most critical attribute for this current Blazers roster). He also gets players to play very hard when in tough circumstances that could often have motivation issues. I'm not sure if Billups is a good coach to win playoff series when that time comes - but we're years away from being in that position. So overall I guess I'm happy with the deal, probably would grade it as a B.
You’re welcome to think that. I think he’s young and shown immense promise and improvement in the main area that mattered which was shooting.
I wasn't talking bout the Suns; I was talking about Denver considering the state of Phoenix's roster, and not controlling any of their draft picks for the next 7 years, I'd imagine they are looking at everybody-->anybody to be the head coach. But it will be a really tough sell, especially if they are seriously shopping Durant and Booker
