China orders airlines to suspend Boeing jet deliveries amid trade war: Report

BEIJING: China has ordered its airlines not to take any further deliveries of Boeing jets in response to the US decision to impose 145 per cent tariffs on Chinese goods, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday (Apr 15), citing people familiar with the matter.

Shares of Boeing - which looks at China as one of its biggest growth markets and where rival Airbus holds a dominant position - were down 2 per cent in early trading.

The global aerospace industry is in the middle of a full-blown tariff war, with planemakers, airlines and suppliers reviewing contracts worth billions of dollars, after US supplier Howmet Aerospace ignited an debate over who should bear the cost of the tariffs.

China's top three airlines - Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines - had planned to take delivery of 45, 53 and 81 Boeing planes, respectively, between 2025 and 2027.

Beijing has also asked that Chinese carriers halt purchases of aircraft-related equipment and parts from US companies, the Bloomberg report said.

Nvidia expects $5.5bn hit as US tightens chip export rules to China

Jensen Huang, chief executive of Nvidia

Microchip maker Nvidia said it would be hit with $5.5bn (£4.2bn) in costs after the US government tightened export rules to China.

The chip manufacturing giant, which has been at the heart of the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, will require licences to export its H20 AI chip to China, which has been one of its most popular.

The rules come amid an escalating trade war between the US and China, with both countries introducing steep trade tariffs on each other covering various goods.

Nvidia shares plunged almost 6% in after-hours trading.

China Now Faces 245% Trump Tariff

The White House said China is now facing up to a 245 percent tariff on imports to the U.S. "as a result of its retaliatory actions," another escalation in a trade war between the world's two largest economies.

The top potential tariff is higher than the previously stated 145 percent and was referenced in a fact sheet published by the White House late on Tuesday.

It accompanied an executive order signed by President Donald Trump that launched an investigation into the "national security risks posed by U.S. reliance on imported processed critical minerals and their derivative products."

Gas has gone through the roof. For years you’d talk to any Trumper and they’d tell you it was Biden’s fault. They’re higher than I ever remember under Biden. Almost $4 a gallon at my local Costco.

Don’t get me started on groceries. We have a family of 6. That bill is crazy for us weekly.

MAGA fans and cult members will never admit to it. It’s all about owning the libs.

Economists are pointing out next president won't be able to just restore trade. World moves on. Countries develop new supply chains, new trade agreements. They have learned the word of the United States can't be trusted.

And that doesn't take into account destruction of public health system, social security, IRS, public education, scientific research, food safety. They can't just be restarted. People find other work.

It will take decades to repair Trump's temper tantrum.

I don't know how much we are taking in from tariffs, but I sure don't see prices going down. I see them going up. Spending more at the grocery store and gas pump for sure.

Isn’t record numbers for tariffs just bragging the government is taking in record number of American consumer and businesses money?

Like what a weird brag. Hey not only are you paying federal income taxes but now you have a consumption tax on top of it - yay!!

On a hunch, I moved out of my position in US Bonds and into International Stocks. Just a feeling that China holds the better hand in this trade negotiation, and that selling off their US Bonds will be one of the cards they threaten to play.
