I could definitely see Drury hiring a college coach, especially if they're leaning toward more of a rebuild than going for it next year. They're kind of stuck between the two.

They’re not gonna fucking rebuild next year and give their first pick away and make it be a top five pick

Looks like they might give the job to Peca or Muse. Iam ok with that. Don’t know why they just did not give the job to either one during the season

If you’re OK with that, you should be taken out and have your balls cut off.

Right, but I could still see Drury going the college route. Carle seems like the only guy they'd consider there.

I will respectfully strongly disagree with you on both counts.

    1. I cannot see Drury hiring a 35-year-old totally unproven no NHL experience coach. I simply don't see it. I'd be shocked if Drury does it.
    2. I don't think they are stuck between the two at all. With the Pens owning their 1st round pick next season, there is a -10000000000% chance Drury is leaning towards a rebuild. There is absolutely no chance in the whole entire world Drury is going to do that. I may have never felt more strongly about anything related to sports in my life. Even if the Pens didn't own the Rangers 1st round pick next season, there would still be absolutely no shot Drury would lean towards a rebuild.

With that said, if they stink again next season, selling at the trade DL is a totally different story. Panarin, and others will be out of here for sure.

Reading this article and Drury's comments, it is so clear this guy is in way over his head. I know I keep saying that, but I am flabbergasted how this guy keeps his job. From what I can tell it is amateur hour all the time, and he comes across as clueless quite often. If the Rangers only had a real owner, there is no shot in hell he'd still be the Pres/GM of this team. As others have written, as long as this guy is running the show, hopes for making the right aggressive moves are very low.

I’m not so sure Drury is going to survive after the exit interviews which Dolan is sitting in on.

Torts is the right coach for this team and it can't be disputed. One, they must get rid of Kreider and Zibanejad or totally unfuck them. Highly unlikely that either of them would want to play for Torts thus waiving their NMC and NTC clauses. If by miracle they did, their asses would be getting benched a lot. Especially Zibanedouche for incompetence. Two, this team is abysmal defensively. They don't block shots and their effort defensively sucks moose cock. Torts will fix that and he will fix it quick. Imbeciles like K. Miller if he is still here will be horsewhipped and scratched for his countless defensive fuckups. Three, as I said our prospects, the few we have fit exactly into the mold of players Torts likes just like the Callahan and Dubinsky's of years ago. So, I'm not worried about their development. If Torts like you, you play a shitload, Fourth, Lafreniere is a lazy bitch. You will figure out real quick with Torts if he can be salvaged. Five, you have the best goalie in hockey and you are on your way to ruining him by giving him no help. He is your best asset and we need a coach that can protect him from the dumbasses he's had in front of him his career here. Sixth, your second best asset Fox is going the Lafreniere route turning into a lazy bitch. It won't happen with Torts here. Seventh, Torts is going to tell Drury right up front what dumbasses on this team they aren't going to win with going forward. Drury who was a player in the mold of what Torts likes will probably be on the same page. Yes, Torts has a shelf life but the only reason a team other than the 1994 squad made a finals was because of the defense that Torts taught the majority of that core.

It is Dolan, so anything is possible, but I think it's highly unlikely Drury gets canned after interviewing/hiring a new coach. Now for the first time, I do believe if the Rangers struggle again next season Drury will get canned by Dolan, he will not get to hire an insane 4th head coach, but he will be here through the summer and into next season for sure. The earliest I could see Drury getting fired is middle of next season if the Rangers stink. Unfortunately, he is going nowhere until at least then.

I don't think you have to hire Torts, with all his baggage and abrasiveness, to do the things you are calling out. It isn't like only Torts can do those things, and no other coaching option can. I think the Rangers should be looking for a lot of those qualities in a non-Torts baggage package.

As for Kreider, you don't need the coach to force him out of here, Drury can trade him as is right now, he only has a 15-team NTC, so he can be traded to half the league. He did score over 20 goals despite a "bad season". With only 2-years remaining at $6.5M per, Kreider is tradable. Let's hope Drury doesn't totally amateur hour F up the Kreider situation like he did with the Trouba situation last summer.

Lastly on Zibanejad, I don't think the only hurdle is his NMC. I think the case can be made the much bigger hurdle is his performance compared to his contract, 5-years remaining at $8.5M per, I believe that is at worst as big of an obstacle as his NMC. Unless Drury can pull a rabbit out of his hat, unlikely, the approach with Zibanejad may be to hope he has pride and works his butt off this summer to prove it and be a stud again next season. I actually think it is possible that could happen, combined with being held accountable by Drury/the new coach. Heck, if Zibanejad only pulled a Panarin of last season and focused on shooting way more next season, that in itself would be a huge step in the right direction.

Torts is a short term solution but the reality is that this core is short term. Panarin, J.T. the two douchebags, Fox, Trochek. Honestly, maybe you get rid of 1 or 2 of those guys but that's it. Drury sucks at trading and it seems Dolan loves him. So, bring in the coach whose greatest strengths are the current weakness of the team. Team defense. Blocking shots. Non lazy play. Toughness. Hitting, Accountability. Torts certainly has some significant weakness but developing young players isn't one of them as long as the young players fit into his mold. Euro morons who don't want to block shots or hit don't fit his mold. I don't see us having prospects like that. Perreault is not close to being NHL ready. He needs a full year in the AHL or he will be ruined. Maybe a year and a half. For all the people bitching at Berard not playing more. He fits Torts mold. Works hard, goes all out every shift. Lafreniere would have been scratched at least 2 to 5 times for Berard if Torts was coaching if he pulled the lazy shit he did this season.

Lafreniere is interesting to me. He clearly has a lot of talent, but also almost as clearly doesn't work hard/work hard enough to improve/play with enough effort/passion. Assuming his head can be in the right place, Lafreniere screams to me a player that needs a tough coach to push him and drive him. If he gets that tough love, I think Lafreniere will take it to another level. I would not trade Lafreniere unless I get a return that is equal to a 1st overall pick with a ton of upside, selling low on him would be very short-sighted and stupid.

I also agree, Berard would be a perfect Torts mold player. Same with Rempe, Carrick, Brod and Edstrom. All 5 of these guys are very good 4th line options. Adding a top 6 wing, and a solid 2-way 3rd line type player should be the focus upfront.

Whatever Drury is, he's light years better in his first crack at GM than that beloved board buffoon Gorton, the worst GM in Rangers history. Drury made a great trade getting JT for a minor leaguer and one of Gorton's many #1 misses. Sad to see Chytil's career might be over from another head shot. Short of lacing up the skates not much else Drury can do once the roster is set, not seeing how the top 3 scorers being 100 points off last year's totals is Drury's fault but that fan mentality plays right into the hands of the lazy excuse making prima donnas on this roster.

Well, one thing he’s trying to do is create a much bigger team. Edstrom-Roobroeck-Rempe is coming. The NBA line. The league has never had to face a line with that kind of size before in their history.

Can’t excuse Lafreniere’s shitty season, but maybe he’s sitting there on the bench between shifts thinking “i have had to switch sides for that dog Kreider, have had a much better season than him, and he’s the one who gets to keep his spot on LW2 and put on PP1 all season”

100% agree Dump. Drury is going for a larger, grittier roster to compete with the teams that win the Stanley Cup. Laf was compared to Crosby predraft, ridiculous for sure and an evaluation worthy of the horsewhip but he's getting his money now, playing out of his preferred position would just be another excuse for his inconsistent effort throughout his career. Soft defense is the #1 problem with this team, opponents cruise through the crease unconcerned about contact especially when Fox is on the ice.
