I love Canada as I covered it for nearly 20 years. It's amazing they have been prosperous up to about 5 years ago or so. When they have 10% of our population they have done well over the years maintaining a similar standard of living, in many respects. However, they need to change their business plan as de - globalization unfolds. They have used tariffs for decades to offset higher cost of doing business over the years, but that is changing as far as trade imbalance, and now that other countries want to slap tariffs on them. China has increase tariffs on them 100% as Canada is wanting to protect their EV market. They have been used to using higher tariffs basically to stay in business and cover much of their social support. They must become creative and aggressive if they want to keep up and compete. Trump knows this and thats where is bs take on Canada is coming from. If they elect this old guard dude coming in, nothing changes as he will try and keep the status quo, and it won't work going forward the rest of this century. The only way this works for Mexico, US & Canada is another trade agreement Built around de globalization trends that are happening.

The conservative leader (Pierre Poilievre, who is similar to JD Vance) was endorsed by MAGA/Musk/chud podcasters but the GOP attacks on Canada have been deeply unpopular/galvanizing. Canadian MAGA's have been struggling with this and with Trudeau's resignation. The cons have been trying to frame the liberal leader as being more aligned with American interests, an effort that has been undermined by Alberta's premier who can't keep MAGA boots off her tongue. They went from a significant lead to a significant deficit in the polls, which is why an election was called by the PM. We're cooked either way.
