Next season it will be a boat anchor but season after an expiring contract.

I think this makes it impossible for the Bucks to contend next season. Would have to imagine they trade Giannis.

Simple sad fact. Dame is a young man chronologically but for a pro athlete 36 is old. Yeah, LeBron is a freak of nature but that is the point, he's an outlier. Cameron Brink at 22 could come all the way back but Dame at 36? Could still shoot but I would be surprised if his mobility wasn't limited.

Maybe that's true, but maybe not. They haven't won 50 games since trading for Dame and were the 5th seed, likely that gets much worse the next two years.

What is the point from the Bucks end of hanging onto Giannis into his mid 30s with no chance to contend, while he ages another year, loses trade value, while risks injury?

If they keep Giannis they currently have zero control of their draft picks until 2030. Mortgaging those picks to contend is one thing. But when they're possibly a playin team or worse, even with Giannis, that might just not be worth the cost.

He will be 35 in July. But yeah, your point is well taken.

So he will be 36 when he next steps foot on an NBA court.

the 2028 swap is a bit iffy because of the Nance trade. If that's the season the Blazers finally climb out of the lottery, Chicago gets the Blazer pick and there is no swap

in 2029, Portland gets the best and worst of the Blazers-Bucks-Celtics picks; Wizards get the middle pick. Odds are the worst will be the Boston pick. Considering the current Milwaukee situation, you'd think Portland's pick would be lower than Milwaukee's....but, there are 4 seasons between now and then and a lot can happen

so yeah, it's possible that the Milwaukee 2029 first, and the 2028 & 2030 swaps won't convey to Portland. The NBA average for swaps actually being conveyed is 40%

Sounds like next year would be a good year to be in purgatory. Sneak into the playoffs and lose in the first round.
But at least we get out from under that Chicago fuck up.

I don't know where you're getting those numbers, but they don't match what I'm seeing:

IIRC, he received a 2 year extension after exercising his option for this season

final year of his extension is 2026-27....looks like

I could see 37 year old Dame being our sniper off the bench. How awesome would it be if our young guns got us back to contending and Dame wins a series off the bench with a 38 footer.

Do you think Dame would be happy playing behind Scoot while he had over a decade running the Blazers himself as not just the starter but as the franchise cornerstone? Is Dame going to be happy sitting on the bench during "Dame" time?

I just don't think Dame would accept being a backup like that here. Kobe certainly didn't accept that. Klay wouldn't accept that last year in Golden State - but he did on a new team. It would be hard for Dame to accept anywhere - but especially hard for him to accept here. If he came back he'd think of the Blazers as his team again that should run around him and he should be the clear PG starter if not the outright star of the team.

32 year old Dame? Of course not. But 37 year old player assistant coach Dame, relaxing on the bench and coming into the game for 12 minutes of Dame time every few nights while he studies up for a future front office or league job? I can see that.

Yes, by then Scoot would be MVP contender and Dame reduced to 3 and d without the d guy. He will be happy shooting corner 3s to help us win a championship and get one for himself

Yeah, this is exactly why I would be calling OKC. They need picks badly, and OKC has lots of them.

Not sure what you are asking. If you are saying they would need to trade the rest of their players, then the answer is no. They have
2 average players they can trade (Hartenstein and Joe) and 11 first-round draft picks through 2030. This includes four first-round picks in the 2025 draft.

And No I am not saying they can trade all 11

Man Joker sounds like he's out of Denver after this playoff series...said he's sick of playing 1 on 5 without a pt guard....now that guy is going to get some offers.
