Would you lemmings be happy if King Joe somehow turned Grant and Ant into Dame and 2 million filler? This brings your Messiah back to Portland. Dame will miss most if not all next year, but that would allow you all to have warm fuzzies and give Scoot the reigns with Dame mentoring him from the bench. Question 1. Assuming Scoot continues to get better….Would this cause problems when Dame was healthy? Question 2. Would Milwaukee be interested in discussing this, knowing they need to re-tool? Discuss
It’s a realistic idea. Dame comes back, giving a lot of fans warm fuzzies. We rid ourselves of Grant and Ant. Scoot gets the opportunity to learn from Dame without having to look over his shoulder. Milwaukee gets two good players to pair with the superstar. In the eastern conference, that’s a decent team with a real coach
I agree. This would be the reason that Milwaukee does this. Ant has to be gone anyway in order to take a step forward
Dame will retire a Blazer and hopefully get back to where he can and win a ship. When he left, i wanted to keep him but always knew this trade would make us better. Also knew that Dame would come back to the team he essentially helped build. Never wished ill will upon him and i hate it that he's going through this.
Only reason I'd maybe consider it is if it's better to eat Dames larger contract in 2 years to get off Grants deal that goes for 3 years. I'm not sure Grant or Dame as players matter. Either is pretty irrelevant and basically a scrub on the court. Seems like it would be available at training camp or the deadline if we can't find a better deal for Ant/Grant before then.
That's fair enough sir, I read the OP with some sarcastic venom that you obviously weren't intending. I apologize. As far as the question goes, I don't think it's the right time to bring Dame back, that would be doing a huge favor for the Bucks. Ant has trade value in my opinion and both him and Ayton are on expiring contracts while Dame can occupy 58M of our cap the season after next and we just don't know what value (if any) he'll bring. Signing him to a vet min after that contract or maybe even a MLE if he's gotten back to being somewhat effective sounds better to me. Trading Ant for something of value sounds better to me. Either finding someone to take Ayton or letting his contract expire sounds better to me. That's how I should have responded to begin with.
Well, our coach is a champion PG. He can teach Scoot how to be a PG. Not the right time to bring back Dame but it could happen
Listen… I’m as big a fan of Dame as the next person. But HE wanted out, WE wanted him here. The organization was pretty outspoken about our perennial All-Star having a home in Rip City for his entire career. If the saying “hindsight is 20/20” applies, then that’s just the way it is. At this point we can’t go back on what we’ve started because of an emotional attachment to a player which thought their career would be better somewhere else. We saw the same thing with LMA. LMA wanted out, and then somewhere down the line supposedly he realized it was a mistake and that he should have stayed. Of course we would welcome Dame back on a favorable contract, but until that day comes - we need to continue our rebuild around our youth. I’m legitimately sad and bummed out about what happened to Dame. We all know that he’s a great athlete, and a great person. I’ll always be thankful for the great memories he’s given us as fans, and will always respect him for everything he’s done for his community in his off time. I really wanted to see him win a championship in MIL, but it never really looked realistic - even before this injury.
There’s value in clearing the runway for our young guards and forwards by moving Grant and Simons. There’s value in adding a veteran leader to a young team. There’s value in adding two good role players to the Bucks to keep them just good enough to keep Giannis from bolting for another year or two, so their rebuild starts closer to 2028 (rather than blowing it up this year by trading Giannis). I don’t hate this. But do they have a package of 2nds to make it easier to swallow Dame’s huge salary?
Of course you would point to this thread. I’ll include your Joe Cronin happy for trading Dame before he got injured thread. You’re on a roll man. Problem is you’re rolling down hill. Just stop.
I don't think he's standing in the way of a step forward, I think he's had a bigger role then he should. When he's shooting well his deep ball can carry a team that night. When he's not he doesn't bring much else to make others better. So more minutes when he's hot, less when he's not. My longtime view is that Ant would be best utilized in a 6th man role and that could be here. btw, the last thing I want the organization to do is try to appease the crybaby section of the fanbase including trading for a nostalgia tour of a fading great. Just focus on building the best team possible STOMP
