Milwaukee will force Dame into a medical retirement to get the cap relief, then he’ll sign with us for the vet minimum and play nine games before deciding to actually retire, thereby messing up the medical exception. Dame will have closed the book on Brandon Roy’s curse.
I don't think that's true It's pretty clear to me that at some point, Cronin pivoted from the company line about "wanting Dame to remain a Blazer", to secretly hoping Dame would ask for a trade and doing everything he could to maneuver Dame into that ask. I think it's also pretty obvious Cronin was saying the same things to Dame he said in public, and that's why Dame was so bitter in the aftermath of his trade demand; that and knowing he was back-tracking on his Blazer for life narrative. But then, no all-NBA player would be OK with years of tanking and the lottery now, maybe it was the best thing because it's pretty obvious that neither Olshey or Cronin had the capacity to ever swing for the fences to try and put a contender around Dame. It may be that the capacity and the reality were just too far apart; I don't know. the final back-breaking straw was obviously drafting Scoot. Pretty sure that Cronin knew that before the draft
Addition through subtraction… Horst might do this if he expects Giannis to demand a trade (and if he doesn’t get fired first)
I wonder if we will see Dame at any Blazers games next season. I’m sure his rehab will be done here where he lives. Or would that just be a bad look?
This is going to make some of you sad, but the best thing to do is simply bring Ant, Grant, Thybulle, Ayton off the bench. #IfOnlyCoachWouldDoIt #LemmingPride
It literally is the best thing, but those guys would revolt if it happened. Remember when Raymond Felton and Marcus Camby and that other guy tried to torpedo the team because they were bored? These guys are risks to do that, especially Ayton and Simons, they’re moody.
I think of the Knicks a couple of years back when they had an assortment of vets and young players, and at some point Thibs just said "fuck it" and completely benched the vets (Evan Fournier et al) and the team just took off. Fournier was pissed (it was essentially the end of his NBA career) and that was a LOT of salary just getting DNP-CDs, but it had to be done.
A humble and hungry Dame returning to the team he loves would absolutely help and fit. WTF are you even talking about.
