Complain all you want, but a new report calls this Oregon city the ‘cleanest metro’ in the country

Uh oh. Someone has pointed out that Portland is lovely again!

Don’t tell the haters, but Portland is, apparently, the “cleanest metro” in the United States.

(Here, a note: My email is at the end of this story and you are free to respond to this article and tell me just exactly why this new report is wrong, how dirty Portland was that one time you drove through on I-205 four years ago or whatever, but at the very least, please read to the end.)

I have to agree with this. We don't get into Portland as much as we used to (mainly due to traffic issues) but we were in town last week and both the wife and I commented just how much better things were. The city is a great deal cleaner and the vast majority of the homeless encampment appears to to be gone. It's almost like the Portland of 20 years ago. Now if they could just get the taggers completely under control.......

We have a couple friends that have businesses in Oldtown and we were down there a couple weeks ago, and it’s still pretty much a mess. But it’s always been a mess my whole life over there. But as we went to Saturday market and headed more west, it was great. Had dinner at the new food cart place behind the Ritz and that was fantastic.

It’s unfortunate if you truly believe that. Nice walk along the river at sunset last week with the family was perfect.

The thousands of corpses didn't bother you? The fires? The infected trying to bite you?

I've been down to downtown more often the last year and to have any opinion that it's still "really bad" is quite ignorant. It's definitely gotten better, but still looks bad cause of the businesses that left and the aestehtic that brings.

It still has its bad spots. But so does Chicago's downtown, and new York citys downtown. They've always been there. I felt safer walking in 2006-2012 and id say I feel safer now than in 2020-2022.

Its changed for the better. To think differently is asinine.

As someone who worked downtown the last ten years, it has improved from 2020 to 2022 big time.

Go down there sometime. Stop being scared.

My kids and I have been down there several times this spring. We played hacky sack for hours at Waterfront Park a few Saturdays ago.

There was no shortage of people.
