If a movie is produced by US company but filmed on location in Britain, is it American or foreign? A movie isn't a 'thing" like a phone or avocado.
That's ridiculous. It closed for a reason. It's been closed for over 60 years. It was crumbling then because of the sea air. Imagine how much more it has deteriorated since then. Also it was way too expensive to keep open because it cost so much to bring food, fuel, water, and other supplies to the island on top of trying to keep it in good condition. It was the most expensive prison to keep open by far. Reopening it makes no sense.
Crime is down but Trump has nothing to sell but hate and fear. So more prisons and deport scary brown people. Didn't take long for him to be labeled Birdbrain of Alcatraz.
If the movie industry in America is hurting its because one it's not affordable to film here, and two because of streaming services releasing movies instead of theatres (which has mostly corrected itself). It's true there is far less filming in Hollywood because of tax reasons. Covid really was a big blow. If you want more movies made here, make it easier for them to be made here.
My understanding (based on more than strong research this week) is that American movie makers make movies outside the US for a variety of very good (or at least understandable) reasons; First, it usually is cheaper to film in other countries. And other countries provide various other perks to encourage companies to film in their countries. And many countries do not have the rules, regulations and restrictions that come with filming in America, which makes the whole venture even more easier and cheaper. Another reason is that the actors and producers actively seek other countries to make a movie in so they not only get an all expenses paid trip to different places, they earn a salary for doing so. And some of these folks couldn't care less about the script as long as they get to go somewhere "cool" on someone else's dime. And what is a "foreign" film anymore anyway?? "American" films are full of "foreign" actors, set in "foreign" lands and telling "foreign" stories. Next the Moron in Chief will crank out an executive order requiring that all films and TV programs, regardless of origin will be dubbed in English, with "foreign" subtitles banned. We are watching an already certifiable buffoon crumble into full blown madness in real time in front of an audience of 350 million people. And only about 180 million of us are intelligent enough to understand that.........
I think we are headed back to the days where all the actors are white men, even those playing female or minority characters. Although drag is bad, so maybe we'll just eliminate the female characters. barfo
Oh shit….. if the tweet about Alcatraz and the one about movies has anything to do with each other…….wait for it…….wait…….for…….it……. THIS CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING FAMS! The Rock 2
