Multiple people have been saying this. But he just doesn't have the wealth to even register in that neighborhood. I guess he could own like 1% of the team but be a spokesperson? Maybe if he can find an Elon type of backer that lets him be the figure head. It would need to be some person or group both crazy wealthy but also that doesn't want to have much direct involvement.
I would think the league would block the sale if there was a plan to move the team. The league would still want a team in the PNW. Unless it's to move to Seattle. Could you imagine the Blazers being renamed to the Seattle Supersonics? Dear God. I don't know if this is a good thing. The Allens' deep pockets were a nice luxury for a small market club. There's also not a lot of mega wealthy people that have ties/loyalty to Portland or Oregon.
Why? Removing the Northwest drastically changes the geographical impact of travel for the entire league. Having a team somewhere like Vegas rather than here suits the NBA’s recent agenda too much to think that they wouldn’t be fine if the NBA didn’t exist in the PNW.
I thought Paul put in his will that the Blazers when sold would be required to stay in Portland. I might be confused, it was a while ago. Anyone confirm/deny?
It could though… It’s probably more likely that we see an expansion before we see another relocation. From a business perspective it makes more sense. It’s like diversifying assets rather than moving your shares to another company.
Silver just said yesterday that expansion is not going to happen right away. Would imagine moving a team is no picnic. I refuse to believe, atm, they will be moved. there are just not that many wealthy Oregonians so it would have to be purely for profit owners ie not for any warm fuzzys
