I think the Trailblazers need new ownership, not from Seattle. If they are getting a new franchise, THE BATTLE AGAINST SEATTLE is on again. I know, it's been owned and operated by Seattleites for years, cut the fucking cord. If Kolde ends up with it, how anti climatic could it get.
I'd rather have someone from Seattle than someone from Florida or anywhere on the east coast of the map. Oregon doesn't have a ton of billionaires with ties here. Our richest guy with ties is Jensen Huang who may or may not have made giant donations to OSU sports anonymously. He generally hasn't shown much care for sports, but he was at the All Star Game this year. It would be sweet if he bought the Blazers.
Opportunity of getting rid of Bert Kolde and Vulcan. I'd take any of Scott, Knight or Bezos over keeping Kolde. I'd even be more excited about Ellison trying to compete for an NBA title than keeping Kolde around. Kolde gotta go. *Edit* Jensen Huang would be great. (Props to @JFizzleRaider)
The Russian Brooklyn takeover…..the new PHX guy? Jamie Gertz and the ATL situation with 12 owners. Just off the top of my head.
Just stop it with the -- no new owners from Seattle crap The chances this team gets moved is between slim and none and none is half way out the building What i want from a new owner is the following 1) Wants to WIN 2) Willing to spend money ( when needed ) 3) Can be from anywhere just not middle eastern blood money so no ownership group from Saudi Arabia -- period 4 through infinity -- WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN .......... did I mention wants to WIN -
I think a lot of us imagine that an owner that actually chooses to buy our team will have a vision for what they want our team to be. I get it that it could be worse because it always can but the seeming micromanagement from Kolde over basketball ops seemed pretty confounding. I guess we're all in wait and see mode. Obviously we are viewing this as fans of the team, not employees, so it's much different for you because if it is worse we juat get to complain more and it will have a real impact on you.
I want a very rich fan of the sport to be owner. Someone with Oregon ties would be nice but not a deal breaker.
I remember hearing that the owner of Dutch Brothers is a huge Blazers/sports fan and has talked about owning a team before.
Yeah, I'm hoping that this press release is more of an announcement of a deal already done or on the verge of being done. If that is the case, I sincerely hope the new owner or ownership group already have some of their own basketball minds with experience either consulting with them or ready to take over basketball ops. So, if it's just some super billionaire that just read the same story on ESPN that I did and called up Vulcan with a huge offer without having any basketball experience or anyone in their employ with a ton of basketball experience, I hope they never touch basketball ops because that would be an insane thing to do. I think most super billionaires looking to buy a sports franchise will have a lot of basketball minds on their payroll before they buy a team. Again if that's the case, I hope we get the vision of those new basketball people close to the new owner being implemented sooner rather than later, so things can start to be cohesive.
Fortune has his net worth at 4.3B so he would either need several minority stake people in line or make the Blazers almost his only project. I think we'd find more stability with someone in the ball park of Knight or MacKenzie Scott. I guess we'll see sometime in the near future.
The trust owning the team is one of the worst ownership situations in the NBA. It's not a coincidence this team has had terrible management decisions since Paul died in 2018. While we don't know a new owner will be good - any change is very welcome when it's currently one of the worst NBA ownership groups around.
They should probably have a group buying the team instead of a single entity. Phil is kinda old, but the Dutch Brothers guy isn't very wealthy, so they'd be a poverty franchise.
