I think our media (esp Fox News, OAN etc) are complicit in this because either A: they don't think it will happen to them or B: they know it won't happen to them.
Or they want it to happen. I understand points in video but most of us don't have privilege to pack up and leave.
True, although most of us wouldn't be as obvious of targets for punishment as they are. But, "First they came for the anti-fascist academics, and I said nothing...". Sooner or later, everyone who isn't a cultist is a target. I'm lucky enough to be an old straight white male with all the associated privileges, but somehow I don't feel all that safe. barfo

That's an interesting concept. Breaks my heart, but it would be better than everyone being held down by these bigots.
We are fundamentally several different societies with different cultural and economic values being stitched together by a set of laws that are not enough for some and too much for others.
They will give you a chance to switch sides and swear feality. I suppose you'll walk the plank instead.
