Do you think we'll see a third year of the Ayton Grant Ant as the Blazers big 3 to start the season?

    I think Simons gets traded.
I also think Grant starts the season on the bench.

Grant said he's gonna call his agent during the exit interview. Very possible he's gone.

Because Cronin saddled us with one of the worst contracts in the NBA. Grant's is bad too.

Ayton's contract is fine. UFA after next season. He'll be traded at the deadline.

Yeah, we had to have that quitter on the team though. for 2 and half seasons.

You will see a very different Ayton this season. Contract years have an odd way of motivating players. He'll start the season very motivated, improve his trade value, and the Blazers will send him out.

    If Grant is not moved.....

They should probably start him if Clingan also starts
    or
Bring Grant off the bench if Ayton starts.

Probably. I don't think the basketball people are making the call on this one.

It is usually the other way around. The non-basketball people generally want to get rid of the high salaries to save money. I know you all hate Bert, but why would he want to keep them more than Joe or the coaches? The one thing they should not allow to happen is bad contracts coming back in return.

I think if Ayton is still on the team to start the season, he's unlikely to be traded, IMO. He likely wouldn't be traded for another expiring contract and I'd wonder if Portland would take on any long-term salary just to dump Ayton with a new owner maybe lurking over the horizon.

I think Bert thinks he is a basketball person. I think Bert thinks Ant helps us win.

I think Bert is a big reason we tend to overvalue our own players until they are worthless.

I'm liking this because I like the idea. I'm not confident that it will happen.

my hunch is that Bert's impact on Blazer decisions is being exaggerated.

It makes a lot of sense but it's made a lot of sense for a while now and hasn't gotten done... so fingers crossed but highly skeptical that we do the sensible thing.

I don't know why but that admission by Cronin that both him and Chaucey have to talk to Bert for a couple of hours every other week has me pessimistic that the right moves will get made before the team is sold. Seems like Bert has to give the green light on every move and Joe just doesn't seem like the best salesman or the best guy at managing his management in an ambitious way which is key when you have a micromanager that doesn't understand your job as well as you do.

Still I think if we can get good pieces back for Ant then he should be gone and I think we can. I sincerely doubt that we can get much for either Grant or Ayton so I'll be pleasantly surprised if either of those two are moved before the season.

Could be. I'm not sure if that would be good or bad...

I think you give Ayton the chance to set the world on fire/earn another big contract/AKA improve his trade value.

Right now, I don't think his next contract will be $35 million a year. I'm betting that his agent is telling him something similar.

You give him some time to improve his trade value vs being just an expiring contract salary dump for a team.
