I think that’s why there are so many lottery busts over the years. There are very few sure bets. And once you get outside of the top 7, there are significant holes in all of these players.

Team need and fit are not part of BPA. BPA is in regard to value to the other 29 teams. What GMs say in a press conference is about as relevant as a used car salesman saying they have the best car.

BPA doesn't necessarily mean highest upside. That would just be who has the highest ceiling as a player. So a player with a higher floor can be better BPA. Think of BPA as more like expected future value. Although I agree that potential does factor strongly.

I just try to think of it mostly as the value to the other 29 teams 5 years from now. BPA tries to ignore considerations specific to your team, specific to your roster, or short term development challenges.

That's super strong comps. I've been strongly on the anti Coward bandwagon. But who knows - I was strongly against drafting Lillard as well

It's amazing how you've gone so passionately from Anti CJ to Anti Ant to already Anti Jase.

I don't know why we're still debating this when it's going to be Demin at #11. If the Blazers get #16, I kind of doubt they would draft Jase.

is it really that "amazing" to you? I've been saying the same thing for years: I do not like undersized no-defense combo guards. Maybe Jase is a better defender than CJ and Simons; maybe he's not. Won't know till he's in the NBA and a couple of years into his career. But for sure he's undersized

Interesting his best comp is Banton. When reading up on him, Dalano was the first player that came to mind.

Demin is the best passer of the draft. Banton isn't that at all. Banton is a good driver where Demin is bashful about getting to the rim. Similar size but very different skill sets.

you know, even after 7 years of hating CJ next to Dame, when Cronin dismantled the Olshey roster, as the next season approached I was willing to give Simons a chance next to Dame. "He's not CJ" was my thinking....maybe it will be a different dynamic. I was right and wrong. Simons is not CJ...he's worse. CJ's defense looked like Tony Allen compared to Simons. It's true that Simons didn't pound the ball quite as much as CJ did, but he still is a ball-dominant guard guilty of hooplock way too much

it's a shame...after Matthews it has now been a full decade of CJ-->Simons. 10 long years of the same shit. And I'm guessing the long nightmare is not over

If we got Demin at 11 and get the 16th pick in an Ant trade then I'd love it if we took Fleming. He can defend pretty much every position, he shoots really well from three and finishes around the hole. He can play wing or post. I also just like his attitude and the grit he plays with. Obviously the big reason why he's going outside of the lotto is that he doesn't really create offense for himself or others but he plays within his skill set and doesn't turn the ball over much.

That would be an exciting draft. Coward and Bryant would also be acceptable picks at #16 if they're available.

not worth a thread but what do people think the odds actually are for Portland getting the 16th pick from Orlando for Simons

    I'm guessing around 18.74%
